I tend not to street race anyone anymore but every now and then the urge comes to haunt me. Had a guy in a mid 90's 4.6L crown vic try to race me one night coming to work. He would pass me then slow down til I got beside him then try to take off fast and slow down again... just being a real douche. Well we were stopped at a redlight and I said, ehh WTH. Light turned green and all I saw was his headlights. At the next redlight I even gave the guy a thumbs up and he stormed off to the right like his butt was hurt. Kinda made me wish I had my Firebird again.

In nearly 3 years of ownership I can't say I've ever raced my truck against anything 'cept the clock when I'm heading to work. That's when my Ranger goes really fast!
BTW; there are dragstrips all over the nation for stuff like this. No innocent bystanders or traffic violations there.
Just sayin'...

I bet mine could beat a Cobalt SS....
But seriously, I don't think that a 2.3 and an auto will beat much on the road. I got back home from being in California for work where I drove a rental. First time I went to merge onto the freeway with my truck I couldn't believe how much slower it was than the rental I had (an 09 Nissan Sentra). Apples and oranges, I know. Wish I had the 4.0.

My OHV was a peppy *****, stock i had 4.10s, that thing was fun!
As for the 5.3, my Silverado hauls some ***. I've heard people beating the 5.3 with the 5.4.. and I've heard of the 5.3 beating the 5.4. I would bet it could take a Ranger. I sorta went up against a 4.0 SOHC in my OHV, both of us were on 285s and had the 5 speed, he had the intake, pulleys and maybe a tuner? He pulled on my but it wasn't a huge lead.
Alot of it has to do with driver skill, there's also alllll the elements that go into a race.. I wouldn't mind putting my truck up against an equivalent (bone stock) F150 and seeing how it does.
