Straigt Pipe

The exhaust set up I am running now is no muffler, single pipe splitting into dual at the rear. A few people in recent exhaust threads said that if running this set up your gas mileage is going to suffer is that true? I do about half highway and half city. If I get 16mpg I am lucky.

A little info on my truck-
-2002 XLT 4.0 SOHC
-3in BL
-285/75/16 tires
-K&N air filter

with the lift and 285's as long as you have an auto I don't think 16 is that bad for gas mileage. I would take that.

I haven't noticed any negative mileage, if there is it is very little.

So the consensus would be that I am ok with my exhaust. At least I will save a little money.

Well I just did this modification about a month ago and I think I lost about 1 mpg. Think I'm going to put a muffler on to correct that issue. I myself dumped it before the right rear with my Z28 Camaro tip.
Here's my original thread
Here's the video I made: Straight pipe Video

Lord of War, I am now running the same set-up you have. I lost alittle low-end grunt and 1-2 mpg. Plus it's kinda loud at freeway speeds in the cab.

I will be installing a new Magnaflow muffler soon. It looks just like a glass pack, but it's not. I hope it tones it down alittle and I get my mileage back. If not the stock system is going back on!

if you're worried about performance and gas mileage then the stock exhaust is probably best plus its free lol. i dont think there is an exhaust low enough price wise, to what you want out of it. only muffler i can think of that sounds decent and saves gas mileage and good performance is Borla, or Magnaflow, but again those mufflers can be pricey especially the borla.

For those of you who have straight pipes a few questions?

1. Did you put on an X-PIPE? It equalizes the exhaust soooo much more.
2. Did you have any problems with your computer not sensing the cleaner exhaust becuase of your sensor?

Thanks - Post quickly Please

With the cats removed, you can expect a Check Engine light, code P0420. If you eliminate the rear O2 sensor, you will get a CEL and code for that. Obviously, it wouldn't pass smog. All this for little or no performance gain.

I asked someone about removing my last cat thats two in/one out and having a dual in dual out muffler installed, and if I had a tune with the last o2 senser shut off, I would not get a code.
