chirping sound at idle

chirping sound at idle

2004 4.0 noticing a slight chirping sound at idle....doesn't seem present with throttle 35,000 miles on motor noticed this sound on cold mornings...but the temp been around 45 for the last few days still hear chirping at idle when run for a while chirp is gone.....correct me if im wrong but the 04 4.0 has a electric cam sensor not mechanical???? replace belt--belt looks good---pulleys seem clean and free of debri----tensioner???---any thoughts greatly appreciated!!!

while your idling when you hear the noise does the idle change in speed? b/c i notice something close to the same ill hear a noise and the idle will change but i have a 98 4.0L ohv, and after 00 they started using the sohc as the new engine they dont offer the ohv anymore only the sohc....

If it continues to get worse over time it's either a bad bearing in a FEAD component (most likely a idler pulley) or the belt is getting glazed.

Thanks rich I purchased a new belt,tensioner pulley,and idler pulley will install this weekend .Napa brand...

Please let us know how it goes because my truck has the exact same symptoms. It's not my belt cause I checked it and it is in great shape.

hehe, just because a belt seems its in great shape doesnt mean it wont chirp.. check out lots of the other posts on chriping and squeeking.. theres usualyl ione answer to the problem.. and its the last thing most people do :-)

gonna change out parts tomorrow....but I FOUND EXTREME ENDPLAY IN THE IDLER PULLEY also listened to pulley with a stethoscope appears to be the culprit.....will post back with results......

Oo, lucky duck fi its the bearings.. Thiose are a sinch to pull out and replace :-) Good luck with it! And lets honestly hope thats the culprit.. much easier to diagnose with it =)
