Synthetic Oil
#26
For you Scamsoil users:
Scamsoil has a reputation for deceit, like many MLM companies! Matter of fact, they try hard to make you believe that all of their oil products are API certified, in reality, there is only ONE (XL).
VW and Audi have engines that are prone to oil sludging (along with Saab,
Toyota, and Chrysler). VW and Audi have developed their own tests for oil sludging, and here are the approved oils....Notice that Scamsoil products are
missing, but Castol and Mobil-1 are there:
VW oil:

To make this even more intersting, Scamsoil issues this TSB, recommending to use their ONLY API certified oil product (XL) and to follow the vehicle manufacturer's OCI,
instead of the extended OCI BS that they try to justify the highly inflated prices of their products with. The reason for the inflated prices is due to the pyramid marketing
structure:

In a discussion with Blackstone Labs, who do UOA, they said that a UOA
test would not detect oil sludging.

Only if it isn't API certified, a requirement by ALL US vehicle manufacturers for the warranty to stay valid. Most conventional oils ARE API certified.

A buddy of mine changed recently in a 04 4 banger. He said it seemed to him it made the truck run smoother and improved his gas mileage a little. I was thinking about switching over and wanted to know what everyone else thought about synthetic. If it improved anything or if they didn't notice any change at all.

Ok and what happens if it passes? Just because it doesn't have a certain certification doesn't mean it wont pass. I doubt the dealership will test the oil.
BTW. 122,000 miles on my truck running aftermarket parts and Amsoil.

Matt, are you familiar with the testing oil has to go through to be API certified? The oil would be tested Matt, if there is an engine failure
under warranty.
Why do you think Scamsoil recommends their ONLY API certified oil (XL), and vehicle manufacturer's recommended OCI in sludge prone engines?

Ether way my truck runs fine and I will continue to use Amsoil.

Let me try and help you......if there is a warranty claim, Scamsoil doesn't
want the oil to be blamed due to it not being API certified......This would seem
to imply they have seen engine warranty claims denied due to their NON API certified
oil products, AND EXTENDED OCI's!!!

You missed the point. XL isn't even Scamsoil's "TOP" oil product, but it is their ONLY API certified oil product.
