Harmonic balance woes
Hey guys, I have been hearing this rattling off n on for a while now. Well I tracked it down today. The harmonic balancer on the front of the motor has a "weight" in it and if you stick your finger in my balancer you can move it around rather freely. Have any of you dealt with this problem? It is an 04 4.0. Shouldn't it be secured in there ore something. Sittin in taco bell's drive thru it sounds terrible!

It was going right before i went on hollidays so i dropped it off at ford before I left They ordered all the parts, except the belt, and when i came back a week later it was done, like $500 I think for everything and labour.
Then went to a parts store and picked up a new gatorback Poly V belt to replace the OEM junk one.

Yeah i think im having the same prob with mine. but it makes the tensioner sqeak. the balancer does wobble a lil so i need to replace it and the tensioner and belt. Looked up tensioner on advanced auto. goodyear was around $28 bucks not sure on the balancer yet though may be a dealer item only. I have to look somemore though.

Hey it makes a difference!
I've replaced a couple before. There is a specific puller used for the harmonic balancer typically. I know here in Michigan, every parts store around will rent one out for free. If not I bought one for under 20.
