Anyway... did you mean "cuts" or did you mean "cats" when you wrote your title??? Your thread title REALLY confuses me. Be a little more descriptive in what your problems are.
I don't know anything about your truck like what engine you're running, but what you told us on your setup, sounds like there shouldn't be any "high pitched drone" unless you've got "lightning" style exhaust or no tailpipe or no catalytic converter. If you've got a 4cyl......that's why. lol. The 4cylinders tend to be a little picky when it comes to what muffler won't cause an annoyance. If you've got a v6, I don't know..... I've not experienced one 6cyl newer ranger that didn't sound good.... they were not annoying and not very loud on the freeway or high in the RPM's. All of them had full cats(or one gutted cat), a muffler, and a tailpipe.
My truck has 1 gutted cat, 2.5" pipe into a Super 44 and dual 2.25" tailpipes ending at the spare carrier... 4000rpm is actually pretty tame.....you hear more engine than you do exhaust. 2500 or so is when mines it's droniest.
solutions: add a resonator between the muffler and the tip. It's similar to a glasspack and cancels out drone
