With my 03 Ranger FX4 with a 4 L auto I've hit 6500 RPM. Going past 5500 isnt nice though.

Well my speedo goes to 120 but the limiter is at 91. Just because the gauge says so doesn't mean the engine says so.

Limiter is at 6100ish RPM

well really just as a general rule you dont rev your engine 10% past its max hp rpm. like the 4.0L ohv engine makes 160 hp at 4200 so around 4600 or 4700 rpms max

I've hit higher then the tach goes on my 02'. I'm sure someone knows exactly when the revlimiter is active for a stock 4.0. I'm guessing 6200ish

I doubt it. The 2.3 Duratec makes max power at 5250 rpm, so I'm pretty sure friction would take over well before 7000 to the point of not only would it be very damaging, but the engine probably physically couldn't make it that high, except maybe in 1st gear. The ignition/electronics probably limits it at 6500 at the very most.

BTW, I had an Accord that also made max power at 5250 rpm as well. The tach ran all the way up to 8k, but I know there's no way in he// it could physically get close to that, with or without a rev limiter.

redline is marked out on my Mazda guages... 6000rpm even. And there is a limiter there, i can attest to this from racing many a Fox-Body Mustangs :D

i've done it when off roading but i never pay attention to the needle (auto trans but i shift manually when abusing the truck) i just hear the rev limiter (niiiiice sound) and then i shift to 2nd but yea 6200ish is about right on a SOHC 4.0
