Valve Cover Gasket repair

Hello Forum Friends,

I have a long-overdue repair to the oil valve cover gasket I need to take care of. I've been quoted by a few places that this kind of work will cost me about $300. Is this something that I could do myself in the parking garage of my apartment, or does it require specialized tools and knowledge? Year is 1998, engine is 4.0L V6. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Im not that familiar w/ your engine, but I doubt its that much different from any other v style engine. This should be an easy enough DIY. Get the new gaskets (dont think you can buy just one), a few clean rags and a can of brake clean, and a ratchet/ socket set. Its pretty self explanatory what needs to be done. I'd clean around the covers as best you could before removing them. You shouldnt need any sealant when going back together.

Do you have to take the upper intake off on those years? can't you just cheat it out? i cannot recall.
but yea, once you take those bolts off, its like 6 or 8 bolts than the valve cover is off.
