The 4.0 sohc is a VERY torqie engine if ford would just do a *little* tweaking from the factory. Doug904 turned me on to lookin at the exhaust side of the heads.. theres some minor blockage. If you can find a set of Aluminum Explorer heads ( I believe they are off the Earlier explorers ) and Extrude hone them.. you will see a nice gain.
Rumor had it the SOHC was going to be the base v6 for the 05 stang.. then they looked at the european duratec 3.5Lv6... Theres No replacement for displacement.. take a 4.0 and do what traditional hotrodders do.. and you will have a beast that could probably keep up with most stock 4.6 stangs ( base GT's ) .
The biggest problem I see with the SOHC is not the engine.. its the Trannies they put behind them. They have a LOT of case flex ( ask me how I know.. I walked home.. ) and a weak 8.8 axle.

how slow is slow? How fast do you want a truck to go? Ive seen trucks run 10s at the 1/4mile track, and for a truck thats fast...
so unless you are going to compare a Ranger to a car or bike, they can go fast...In some cases faster then the car, but most likely never faster then the bike
this is a ranger site, and a post about the 4.0, if you cant be more open about it, maybe you should stop posting replies to the subject, and let people who want to learn and want to mod there engine post

I am open, I am sharing my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. How much power does that modified 4.0 OHV make? As much as a beater 5.0L mustang? Is it as fast as a $1000 motorcycle? I am just curious as to why people spend the money on these things. I seek enlightenment. I don't understand you and I want to.

BTW: Those clips Dr. Skot posted.. theyre pretty old.. I've done a lot more since then.. I didnt even have my pro-m maf , proper injectors nor my timing where it was 'sweet' .

So it's a desire to be different then? I can accept that answer. The thing that I don't understand is why buy a Ranger if you want to go fast. i am guessing that the Ranger came first, and the desire to go fast came later.
I can not confirm nor deny that the base engine in the '05 Mustang is the 4.0L SOHC V6.

When you have a 13 second mustang people say so what. If you have a 13 secon ranger people are like wtf?
And I can confirm that the '05 stang will have the 4.0.

I suppose what you say is true. I guess I don't have that type of personality is all that's different about me. I tend to just buy vehicles for a purpose and leave them stock. My secret rationale is maybe an insecurity, if you modify something and someone thinks it looks stupid it's your fault. But if it is stock and someone makes fun of you, it isn't your fault, you didn't make it that way.
And here's another old fart comment, resale value. You can laugh at me for that one, I won't mind.
