dirty/oily throttle body

I took my intake tube off today and my throttle body was all oily and full of dirt particles, is it supposed to be like that, or should I clean it off?

good old pcv system. mine was black and nasty too.
The difference is some throttlebodies are coated... and regular carb cleaner will eat it off.
(or so I read)

It's not oiled, but it's not the best quality I could find.. it was just a substitute for a real air intake until I decided to get a K&N or MAC or something

The oils comeing from the crankcase ventilation. There are catch cans available. Let me find a pic. Kboyd put one in his truck. Hang on.

I can't find the pic. It was from the last Huntsville meet at the state park.

That is against the law unless you use a Stef type canister. The Stef is more like an accumulator than a regular catch can. It pulls vaccum through it and catches the oil in the bottom. That may be what you were reffering to, but I just wanted to clarify it!

Accumulator is the better terminology I was trying to describe. It's a sealed system. Nothing goes in the atmosphere.
