V-8 swap for 07 stx

I'm thinking of doing a V-8 engine swap on my 07 ranger STX and im curious what all ill have to change, relocate or remove entirely. i havent decided on the engine yet other than a minimum size of 5.0. The truck currently has a 2.3 DOHC with a 5-speed and i would like to keep it a 5-speed but already know ill have to upgrade from the stock one i have now to something that can handle to extra power. i also know i will be required to upgrade my suspension, brakes and rearend to also handle the extra power. i plan on lowering it 2" front and back to give it a better look and help it to continue to hold the road as good if not better than it already does.
I also need to know if i would have to alter the hood to make room for the engine to clear. i might wind up doing that anyway to make it look a lil meaner. I also think ill add a supercharger to it so i need to find a ford engine that has a supercharger for it. i want this truck to a road rippin beast lol.
i plan to add a tailgate lip spoiler i found to it and have ends made for it to finish the spoiler out so its not just on the tailgate but will wrap around onto the edges of the beside near the tail lights like the early 70s camaros had for a bit of extra downforce.
this is what i want the engine to go into and also heres a pic of the spoiler i found so you will know what im talking about.

you will have to completely remove your 2.3

seriously though if you do this it will be sweet but will require a LOT of custom work.

good luck finding that thunderbolt kit.

yeah i aready knew id have to remove the current one but im not sure what all id have to do with the rest of whats in there. i know ill need to replace the harness and most likely replace or reprogram the computer for the engine and tranny. the spoiler is just the style of ofne i want on the truck. it doesnt have to be that specific one.

You have PATS. Your better off getting rid of that truck and getting a pre 2003. or just a 2005 those didnt have PATS (passive anti theft system) also your gausges are all electronic.
Parts
Expo 5.0, Harness, trans,
8.8 Rear end
shortned drive shaft
and thats all ik more people will chime in

It a long and hard project for a new truck

thanks but im not one to give up just cause its gonna be a hard process. that just means the rewards will be just that much more satisfying. besides i love the styling of this truck and dont want another one lol.
to be fair, the changes needed to me are a challenge and while i may not be able to afford them just yet, the end result will be worth it since most shy away from this year because of the PATS.
To me this is not hard. Hard is nearly dying in a major car crash and getting up and walking with the help of a walker less than 24 hours later. i've already done that this year so ive already got the hard stuff out of the way and just have the challenging stuff left. AND I LOVE A GOOD CHALLENGE LOL

I an entry to another forum where someone put a cyclone v8 from a mustang with a supercharger on it into a 2011 ranger and was able to do it. if i could find out what all he changed and did to it then that would help out emmiensely

The cyclone is a Chevy truck, the mustang engine is a coyote. The coyote is a stroked variable valved 4.6. It is a ton of work, hence a fab shop built it.

yeah i'd like to see it done in this, its not that big of a deal to ditch all the PATS and whatnot (assuming you dont want to keep it) you can get soem parts from older rangers in junkyards to adapt a fwe things you can get rid of.

And I would just do a custom gauge cluster.

You can have a Ford dealership reset the PATS system for you or get a custom tune that has it deleted so don't listen to Dave and although it doesn't apply to your 2007 he's also wrong saying its pre-2003. PATS started in 2000.

Check your local laws also.
I don't know any of this for fact but overheard or read over something a few years ago about swapping motor and the new motor for emissions or something needs to be of same year(motor generation like the SOHC 4.0 2001+ are the same) or newer in some states.

I know many have swapped and it's not a big deal. Might just be worth checking into to be safe. I swapped a 68 motor into my 72 (smaller v8) and no one said anything but at that old one would expect a motor swap.

This does sound like a cool project.

Yes, some states require same year or newer hence my lsx suggestion. Throw a t70 with flipped truck manifolds on it and have a reliable 500 whp in a 3300 pound truck that with 3.08s (turbos love 3.08's) will knock off 30 mpg cruising

Alot of mis-information. PATS in Rangers goes back to 1998 (at least). I did an explorer V8 swap into my 1999 Ranger 4x4 back in 2001. My truck has PATS. After the swap, I just borrowed a NGV-STAR tester and re-set the Explorer EEC-V to work with my trucks PATS module and BOTH sets of keys (must have both).

The biggest concerns with the 2004+ swap is the wiring architecture changed dramatically with the "new" 2004 trucks. For the 1998 - 2003, gross majority of the circuits are identical. I had to change something like 4 circuits when I did mine. Rest were 1:1. The 2004 is a major change. Best bet would be to swap out all of the electronics for an older rangers system. You will lose the new cluster with digital odometer, but that should be it. Swap over whole dash harness from an older ranger and a explorer V8 / harness / EEC - 1999-2001 is best year.

If I sell my 1999 and get and FX4 Level II (2004-2006) for my 351W S/C setup, I will do just that.

There was a guy over on the ranger station that did a 5.0 swap on a 2005 2wd ranger edge back in april I believe, It was a 3.0 to 5.0 swap. Aside from having to get custom driveshafts made they said the wiring wasn't bad. He didn't swap out dash harness. They were working on getting the speedo corrected from last update, but it doesn't specify whether or not they were still using the newer electronic gauges or not. He said he was making a write up for it, but nothing yet. Makes me wonder if 2004-2005 5.0 swap is not as hard as it's made out to be? I have the link for it, but not sure if I can post it.

thanks guys for all the input. when and if i have it done, i wont be doing it myself. i only know enough for general maint, tune-ups and brake changes. im not gonna try to dig into it myself and risk screwing up, so i'll have one of the local custom shops do it and just supply the parts that are needed. i am thinking of looking around to see if i can find a cluster that has a tach that goes higher and a speedo the reads over 120. heres the engine im looking at for the truck. before i can do any of that though i will need another vehicle to drive while the truck is in the shop.
