Asking for V8 swap opinions

Have been trying to get around to this for about 6 months but with tearing 2 different tendons in my knee and the passing of my baby sister from cancer you can understand how and why my mind has not been on my Ranger. Okay, enough of that on to my questions about the V8 ranger swap.
1. Have any of you made the swap using Ford factory engine mounts? I like this idea due to the fact replacement mounts are readily available at a reasonable cost.
2. The aftermarket options. I won't list names, we know who they are, and there are a lot of them. Any favorites? I am told that some mounts require drilling and some mounts place the engine low in the chassis. I like the idea of keeping the weight as low as possible. I am married to the idea of keeping things as simple as possible. By this I mean avoiding drilling, cutting or modifying parts or the chassis in any way unless I absolutely have to.
3.Induction system. Being in Florida where we do not have vehicle inspections or emissions testing I am torn between going with a carb or bitting the bullet and retaining the fuel injection from the donor vehicle. Carb=Simple, Fuel injection=LOTS OF WORK TO INSTALL. How big a deal to splice the donor harness into the truck? Time consuming and tedious I bet. I have the time. I also HATE hack job conversions! Do I use the computer from the donor or do I look for a year and model specific computer with more favorable performance abilities?

I am sure I will have more questions as I go. Thanks to any and all for what advice you may have to give. Bruce

What is and isn't possible or practical is highly dependent on what year, model, transmission and drive you have. Please make a signature or describe your truck.

Truck in question is a 1993 RangerXLT Supercab 2wd with the 3.0 v6 and a 5 speed manual transmission. Plans call for a 5.0V8 with an AOD automatic transmission. Have already swapped out the 7.5 rear for an 8.8 with Traction Lock and 4:10 gears. Will be looking to keep the donor vehicle the same year as the Ranger. I am aware of Ford using a few types of fuel injection and the different sensors involved. Also aware of the different self diagnostic systems used. Just trying to gather information to make things easier before I dive in. Thanks

Check out the V8 section of Ranger Power Sports. Not only do they have a large number of running V8 conversions among their members, they also have a better-than-average representation of Rangers from that vintage. There is a ton of accumulated info at these sites:

Have already been to ALL of these sites and have read ALL of what they have to offer. What I was after was first hand opinions from people who have done the work, not a read this and figure it out response. Former member

Nice attitude. There is not a lot of V8 Ranger conversion experience among members of this forum as you may have guessed from the lack of response from others. I'm glad I took the time to try to help you....NOT.

Do not lecture me about attitude. I have been to all of those sights and read everything I can get my hands on. I ask for opinions and thoughts from people who have done the job before. What works, what doesn't, what would you do differently and all I got in return was a college professor's read it for yourself attitude. My 5 years with the Nissan 720 owner's Group was a festival of endless help and ideas from EVERYONE involved. Sorry for wasting YOUR time!

First, we were supposed to be clairvoyant and know what vehicle you own. Then we were somehow expected to know that you had already read some information from other sources. How would anyone have known that from what you posted?

You show up here, contribute nothing, post your vague questions, then whine because we don't have the answers you expect. To top it off, in your total arrogance, you complain about the one person who tried to direct you to other sources where you might find help.

Your attitude is incredibly rude and self-centered. I don't think any of us will miss you, Mr. "Former member".

Brent, thanks for the input. A 4.0 is just not an option for me, got to go for the 5.0 or the 5.8. Thanks!

Bob, your attitude is that of a supremicist. If I have offended anyone else, I apologize. Since NO ONE has any V8 conversion experience here this was a mistake in more ways than one. I do not whine, my particapation would have grown as it had back in the 720 group, based on time and establishing a dialog with several members and with experience with the subject.

Well if no one has experience on this why would we answer? Bob did the best he could, which was dig up other sources. He was the only one to try to help you. Instead of thanking him for trying you throw it in his face and get upset that no one has any info for you on a V8 swap. If you want electrical help Bob is one of the top dogs on the site and I defy anyone on whatever other board to be as useful in that regard. If we can't help you with what you need, sorry. But don't throw what help IS offered back in the persons face for trying. Geez man....go back to your other board...

Personally i wouldn't spend all of that time swapping in a v8 with an auto tranny into a ranger, just to run a carbueretor.

This Ranger website is more centered around 98+ rangers and lifting/lowering, compared to V8 conversions, although we all want to heh.

Oh and BTW, if you looked at all the stuff on RPS, and still can't figure it out, you're up **** creek without a paddle. Many people have told all the stuff they need, what type of engine they need from what, and even advice on installlation.

Oh also one more thing. Check out www.therangerstation.com and check out their technical section. They cover V8 swaps nicely.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you man. He was just tryin to help you out. There's nothin about a V8 swap I can tell you that hasn't been said already. Sorry we can't help you out much, but atleast you could be nice about it. You asked for help, Bob tried to give it to you, but you just threw it up in the air and threw a little hissy fit. Time to grow up.

You should use the computer that came with the donor car. If not, find one of the same year. You can install it pretty easy. It's pretty tedious work though. Just to answer that question. I haven't done the swap, just helping you out with the computer part.
