Does Alberta have emissions testing?
In an effort to save time, If you can't pull your current enigne and put it in yourself then it would cost more to install a stock 5.0 than it woudl to install an explorer express supercharger. Not ot mention you are young and may decise to get a new vehicle ina couple of years, so trading a vehicel in or selling one with the original engine is infintely better than one with an engine that hasn't been used since the mid 90's.

I can throw a lawn mower engine on a shopping cart, that doesn't mean I am qualified to put an engine fromt eh mid 90's into a vehicle made in 2008.
You do know it isn't just the engine right? You have to factor in the transmission, transfercase, probably the driveshafts as well.
Lets entertain the thought that it an be done in 30 hours, any shop that is going to do this work is going to charge about $100 an hour so you are looking at $3000 USD just to get the old powertrain out and a new one in. That doesn't include the parts.
This is why I made the first statement. You can get an EE SC installed at a professional shop for about a grand and the parts should come to just over $4k. And you don't have to mess with the transmission, transfercase, or electrical.
And again if Alberta has emissions testing and their requirements are like the US then you can't legally put an older engine in a newer vehicle.

you truck would need a **** ton of rewiring to make work... you can keep 4x4 if you want to run an Advance Adapters kit like i did OR run a 4406 t/c from an expedition.... But you are talkin custom stuff. I did 5.0 in my 2000 ranger and i had it easy where as the things i had to swap out were plug and play. very minimul rewiring needed for mine!!

It is a blt in and the wiring is VERY minor. I used all stock explorer parts in my 1999 Ranger 4x4 swap with Explorer 5.0L and AWD t-case. The driveshafts were explorer front and ranger rear with explorer t-case flange yoke. Wiring was all of 4 circuits and a re-pin on the cluster for tach conversion.
I have heard on another forum this was done by a Ford Mechanic in 10 hours at his dealership garage (hoist, etc.). From doing my swap in 3 weekends and talking my time(****), I believe that is acheivable.
Only custom part is exhaust past CATS.

Eh, it could be done, but you would have to swap out your ENTIRE wiring harness, post 2003 trucks are impossible with the factory wiring, and even the 2001 to 2003 trucks are quite complex. But if you were to swap in an earlier wiring harness from a ranger or explorer then you could get it to work.
