Anyone seen or did a swap? interested to see. i know of one in a myspace group i belong to...gen 1 ranger with a 390 on 38s...

 

FE?

youve been around long ,enough. theres lots of threads on this...

 

and there isnt a single thread bout putting an FE into a ranger.

FE - ford big block used from 58-76, ranged from 332 ci to 428 ci...

 

I would imagine it is a lot like stuffing a 460 into a ranger. They are relatively close in size. The 429-460 engines just have more aftermarket support for the trucks, but the FE line is still hanging on in the 60's and early 70s ford cars for performance. I just dont think anyone makes any swap parts for the FE, they make motor mounts and headers for the 460s though. I guess people go for the swap most common, especially if the aftermarket supports it too.

 

ya, i know parts are hard to find for the FE series (finding em for our 390 is a PITA!) but they are out there.

i think it would be badass to see a 428 CJ or 427 hi-riser under the hood of a ranger...

 

I have an FE sitting around, but I think it would be way too heavy to go in a ranger. A fully dressed FE weighs about 700 to 800 lbs.

 

not really that much, probaly 700 lbs with oil and coolant.

 

I would just do a 351 swap and call it a day,you should have plenty of hp.

 

The FE series is pretty large... Even bigger then a 429/460... and the shape of the block is physically a little wider.

 

An FE in a ranger is probably pushing it a little much, not saying it can't or hasn't been done though. I've got a 390 sitting here in the yard and I could almost swear that it looks wider than my 84's hood, hell almost looks wider than my 84. The aftermarket is beginning to return for the FE though, it's pretty slow at it but it's there. Personally I'm saving the 390 to bore, stroke and drop in a 67/68 Mustang Fastback.

 

It would be plenty doable to get an FE in one. It would be some fab work is all. Nothing that is to hard. I have seen 390's in smaller vehicles. It is amazing how many people say things can't be done.

actually the FE is about the same dimensions if not a hair smaller. the intake makes it seem to wide...its a big ****. anyway, long live the original ford BB!

 

Yes, I do. Love the 390's. I also have a 59 Galaxie with a 352. Great motors. (minus the 360). I hope you do it. I considered using the 352 I had, but came up with the CV 4.6 instead. So I did that.

Anything CAN be done with a torch and a welder. It's just not always pretty.
