Conversion almost done need help!!

Just about finished with my conversion just have the hard part to figure out( not the best with engine stuff). i put a 78 c4 and 302 in my 90 ranger. i am down to getting it running tuning it and making sure i rebuilt the tranny right. this is what its doing so far. i can crank it pump the gas pedal couple times and it will fire up then seems like it runs for 10sec or so then dies even if i try to keep pumping the gas to keep it running. seems like it stops getting gas or spark? any sugestions on what i should try?
second problem... i havent hooked up the shifter all the way because i need to do some fabricating with it but trucks in park and i start it up and seems like its still trying to lung forward. is that bad torque converter? like i said i rebuilt the c4 but the torque converter is original. never had tools to check it.
any help would be nice. thanks

Sounds like a timing issue I've run across try advancing the timing (turn clockwise) also what firing order are you using?
