estimate the price cost for V8 swap -NEW PARTS ONLY

What is everyone's BEST guess to SWAP a V8 into a 04 ranger 4L V6?

Not being specific on the V8, just rough guess "Average cost"?

ALL NEW PARTS ONLY.

All new parts? I'm going to take that as literally brand spanking new.

Somewhere between 10 and 20 thousand?

Or you could go with a 2000 Ford Explorer drivetrain swapped in. Not as shiny as "brand new" but that price can range some.

Wow.....

that's mental.

Yes I meant "brand new".

I was trying to argue price between finding a rolled over V8 in an exploder, vice doing it all "new" with a friend.

I always thought I knew very little....but I now know that I know more than at least one other person.

. o 0(that was the oddest sentence I have ever typed).

This may sound stupid to some of you, but hear me out, Would a Chevy v8 like an LT1 be a better fit in these trucks? After reading bobs thread about the compromises they make for lack of space and knowing that GMs V8 are smaller in Physical size, just has me thinking. I mean one guy is already swapping a 700r4 into one why not an LT1 or even and LS1. Just food for thought.

a Chevy 302 or even a SB 350 would be an excellent fit in a Ranger......they are a narrow v8, a bit narrower than a Ford 302......

only problem is, it would be almost a bolt in swap....everything would be custom from cooling to exhaust....

I see enough street rods with Chevy 350s, I'd hate to see a Ranger with a Chevy motor. The reason is always because the 350 is "Easy to build and are common" but have you seem what the Fox body stang guys are doing with the 302 and 351W! With those great Ford motor and TONS of aftermarket parts, there is NO reason to put a 350 in.

On a side note, if I had the money, I would build a 69 Camaro with a Ford 300 I-6 motor and take it to all the Chevy car shows.

The price for the swap would depend a lot on how much you wanted to put into your motor. The more you put into the motor the more you need in the trans (to hold up to it) and the more you need in the rear end. I mean you can get a Ford Racing 302 for 4g ready to run off Jegs. Come up with a tranny and all the nickel and dime stuff that always kills any project you'd probably be looking at around 10g. Maybe 7500 if you could do a lot of the work yourself and do it right.

But on the other hand if you put 12g into a motor like 302project, (which is absolutely sweet by the way) you need a really beefy tranny and probably a big *** rear end to hold up to that.

On a side note, remember your talking to a guy that has done almost zero research into this swap. So if my numbers are way off it won't surprise me.

I dont agree that Chevy parts are "WAY cheaper" then for parts now. With the boom of the 5.0 Mustang, you can find new and used parts very easy and cheap. Stop by Craigs List and if your area is anything like Milwaukee, you'll find post after post of 5.0 parts for sale.

Some of the fastest real street drag cars are 5.0s and there is a reason. The Fox body mustang and the 5.0 is the performance deal of the century.

I have done the swap to my 94 Splash. I have about 400hp and used a tremec trans out of a 99 Cobra. Everything on it is billet or chrome, it is a show truck. I have done all of the work myself and bout the parts here and there, at swap meets, shows, ebay, you name it I shopped around for parts. With the engine conversion completely done I have spent some where between $8,000-$10,000 on the swap, but it is sweet. Well worth every penny of it. If anyone needs to know anything I have done all of the work myself, just hit me up.

If you are contemplating swapping your 4.0 to a v8 you are forgetting one thing. The depreciation you will have on yourtruck by removing the stock motor. Sure you might be able to sell it private party if someone is willing to buy another man's modded truck, but no dealership will give you the trade in you are looking for.

This is the advantage of an Explorer Express Supercharger, it can be removed and sold before you trade in the vehicle, or if the vehicle gets totalled.

Just curious, how did you get the '99 Cobra trans to bolt up to a 302? The Cobra trans has an integral bellhousing and is made to bolt to a 4.6 mod motor.
