Has any one tryed this V8 conversion ????????
I have a 1996 ranger with the 4cyl. auto w/od and I came across a 1997 mercury mountaineer 2 wheel drive auto w/od and a V8. The question is will the wiring harness plug and play.If any one has tried this I would love to here from you. Any help would be appreciated thank you

I checked out several pages of the V-8 section and Mudslanger's thread..but his truck is a 1999. I am looking for someone thats done the swap with a 95-97 year model Ranger & Mountaineer engine. There are tons of 98 & up swaps....and most of the technical writeups consist of info for the 98 & up aswell.

EVTM's for both vehicles will tell you if they are swappable. Look at them and study them.. There is a lot of info The ultimate 98+ Explorer-based 5.0 V8 swap thread. - Ranger Power Sports Forum and Swapping An Explorer 5.0L In To A 1998-Up Ranger
Check and search this site, there is LOTS of info here or just ask, lots of people have a 5.0 in there older year rangers.. you might be lucky and no have to deal with pats.

I think you should be good using a 97 mountaineer for your 96 ranger but id still ask around!

Chris, please specify what EVTM stands for. It isn't proper to use abbreviations without first saying the whole thing. Lol. That way people know that stands for Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual, and not Every Vegetable Turns Monstrous. Nah, just kidding, but seriously, I knew what you were talking about, just didn't know what it stood for. Google is my friend!
