5.0 ranger questions.

Alright i know yall hear this kinda stuff over and over but ive been studying on dropping a 5.0 ho from an 88 mustang gt with ecm and t-5 tranny in my 94 3.0 ranger. I know if i have the right brackets i can use the v6 altenator and power steering pump. Well is at all possible i can keep my 5.0 altenator and power steering? This is the only info i lack. I got everything down pretty much. Any info will be very helpful. thanks

You really need to go with the Explorer front accessories...due to limited space!

A lot of mustang guys will buy the explorer V8's and sell the explorer FEAD system off (pulley accessory setup), typically ebay. Also the sn95 mustangs run the same setup.

On your 94 you can run the mustangs alternator and power steering pump without a problem. Your truck does not have the limited space like the 98+ trucks do.

Hey i have one more question. My truck is an automatic. I know i need to get a clutch assembly. As you know the t-5 is mechanical and not hydraulic. I want to keep it mechanical. Anyways, what should i rob an assembly out of? maybe the earlier model rangers were mechanical? I read a thread where a guy used a mustang clutch assembly, too much trouble there or what?

The 5.0 Mustang T-5 takes a 157T flywheel and the imbalance factor of the 5.0 Ex is 50 oz, same as a late model 5.0 (OVH) Mustang. So, those are the specs for the flywheel.

IMO, a great disk and pressure plate combo to use with that flywheel would be the 10.5" production Cobra unit from the 93~95 Cobra Mustang. A rare combination of lower actuation effort and higher clamp force compared to the Mustang HO clutch - best of both worlds. There are also many good aftermarket Mustang clutches available.

Rob should be able to give you the best advice on the adapting the T5 cable actuation to the Ranger. He has posted about it on R-F before. Another way to go is to adapt an external slave cylinder to the T-5 to work with the factroy Ranger master cylinder.

As Bob has stated use a Mustang clutch measuring 10.5 They are plentiful and fairly cheap. As for the clutch setup I would stear clear of the cable if at all possible. I tried several different clutch cable setups and none of them ever worked all that well. I attached a link below to another forum members page that shows how he setup his clutch using the stock hydraulic master cylinder and a cheap slave. I have adopted this system myself and have several thousand miles on it without any troubles.
