Well ive got the upper intake off.......... I have the fuel leak from hell. It pisses out gas just about as fast as the pump can run push it up there. Judging by the fuel trail number 5 injector o ring is leaking. Not a big deal at all but not something I can fix at quarter till midnight

Tomorrow I will get a video or two. It runs pretty well but threw codes for all sorts of stupid crap. I got a feeling this is going to be an ongoing adventure to pinpoint each little issue.

Word to anyone going to do this........... BUY A WHOLE EXPLORER YOU CAN TROUBLE SHOOT THEN SWAP! life woulda been better that way for me

Also buy EVTM's and have a repair manual for both vehicles. Was the best thing I did for the swap I couldn't have done it without.

IMO, the FRPP's are better than stock but not nearly as good as the TMH. The TMH are also compromised by the tight Ranger/Explorer engine bay but they are still the best bolt-on available (if available).

Stock above, FRPP below:
Stock are complete garbage they are pinched so bad, so restrictive. TMH is def the best off the shelf headers for this swap (Only one's still available anyway AFAIK). But if you have experience in welding and doing a little fab work you could build a header just as good for cheaper. May not look as good tho cause those TMH are beautiful! Just can't justify spending that much on headers.

You guys wanted proof. Well here is a quick video. Please keep in mind its running like crap but at least its running

I am pretty sure its running really rich, I just dont know why. My brand new cats will glow red in a minute or two of it running. I know they arent clogged so its gotta be fuel. All my o2 sensors are making some weird readings. Plus a few other codes to sort out

an update, passenger coil pack was unplugged at time of video and battery was half dead along with the charging wires not run right. So that explains the crap idle. It runs alot better now but still needs some stuff. I wanna do new up stream 02 sensors just to eliminate that issue (im throwing ever 02 sensor code in the book). Then start messing with other sensors

Thank you, Since the drivetrain is now to my liking I want to get an 03 fx4 front bumper, chrome grill and chrome rear bumper. Kinda shine it up a bit

Over all thoughts............... Its fun, as far as my own personal scale id say 6 out of 10 for difficulty. Id use a 99 and up next time so I can avoid fuel issues but it was an easy fix. I will be getting this trans gone over as it doesnt like the 1-2 shift. It needs run alot more as it was a junk yard motor but right now id drive it anywhere. Long story short, if you have the junk yards available or can get an explorer/mountaineer cheap go for it. Its all straight forward and really its all designed to work in that space

Just cause I had to see if it would do it

Honestly mine runs great, but very lean. I really have no intention of buying them because it runs fine

as far as the burn out pic, you knew you could do it lol, you just wanted an excuse to burn up the stock size so you could get some 31's lol

and I know you said you wanted stock Ranger, but 31's came stock on certain(I believe only certain, may have been all) FX4's..
And since you're getting a FX4 front bumper you might as well just call your truck's trim level FX4 LEVEL 3!!

I actually like the tires ive got. I didnt do the swap to push bigger tires. I always have wanted to put FX4 stickers on my truck since I did the manual hubs, manual t case, and other junk. I am going to do a manual t case again here shortly so I may do it idk. 31s are the biggest id ever go on this truck

After running it around and whatnot ive come up with a few issues. First off its got a metal hitting metal noise pretty bad at idle. I am going to give that one to the fact the primary cat pipes arent in any kind of mount. Just hanging next to the trans. Secondly I had a trans issue that I solved with some creative wiring. Apparently in 98 there were serious trans wiring changes so my 97 harness didnt meet my 2000 trans very well. Got that all set and its happy now. Another issue is it still runs weird. It may just be how its going to run I am not sure. Its probably going to take me a while to track that one down as other issues keep coming up and taking the lead. One of those issues was tonight. The AC pump clutch did something wrong and froze up. The clutch was glowing red. Well I undid the bolt and pried it off. Now thats fixed but it cooked the belt and it snapped so enough tinkering for tonight.

If all the rumors are correct about doing the 4406 swap then I need to get on that. A guy on serious explorations said it was like adding a supercharger. That would make sense considering the AWD case splits power 65% rear 35% front. So in theory you gain 35% power to the rear wheels with a manual t case

Swapping in the 4406 would not give anything near a 35% gain. You'd still be pushing the same brick down the road with the same engine but with less frictional loss. I'll take wild guess that you would see about a 10% fuel economy and performance improvement with the 4406 in 2WD mode vs the Ex AWD case. Also increased tire life vs the notoriously bad AWD. And you get low range. All of which makes the 4406 worth it.

I knew it was to good to be true, I guess that means I am gonna have to supercharge it then lol

Actually as far as performance goes I dont really want to mess with it for now. But seeing as how I cant leave anything alone I did get a deal on a set of trick flow heads. But I may just clean them up and resell them

Hows it running? If you want an idea on 2wd performance drop the front driveshaft, but be careful they like to creep without it.

Ive been running mine without one since the swap, but its going back on this week because of the weather.

I dont run a front shaft lol. The parking brake holds it pretty well.

It runs awesome but I have some work to do. The usual stuff with a junk yard motor

How is yours running??
