What do I need to do for a 5.0 swap?

Ok so I have a 5.0 out of a '90 F-150, I have the harness as well. I do need to get a Ranger but that is not a problem for me. I would prefer a 2.3 rwd with a 5 speed, so would I need a new transmission? Im sure I would need a few new things but im just not sure at all. I would also like it to be more of a street truck rather then it be a pre-runner. Just curious what I have to do.

-Thanks

Will need a trans the light duty 5 speeds will not handle the kind of abuse the 5.0 puts out for very long and the bell housings cannot be changed anyway. A lot of people use the M5R2 which came in the early 90's f-150s or a borg warner world class they both bolt to the 5.0. Also id check emissions requirements for your area my 2003 ABSOLUTELY cannot be swapped to a 5.0 and be registered so if your in the same boat id go for an 80's vintage ranger then you can do carbed or basic EFI and not have to worry about any emissions stuff. There was an 84 Ranger GT for sale on here not sure if the guy still has it but the body kits make it look like a street truck and the 5.0 would definitely make it go like one.

Yeah I kind of figured I would need a new trans. would I need new front and rear axles though? Any other major parts like that I would need to get? This was just a thought I just had im not even sure if im going to do this for sure.

It might be easier to start with a ranger with a bigger motor they came with bigger rear ends and more gearing options the 7.5 in the smaller engine trucks can handle the 5.0 because they were used in the fox body mustangs but the gearing might be to high/low to get decent mileage out of the motor. Front would be ok when i was looking into the swap most people agreed the v6 suspension could handle the weight really well since its only about 75 to 100lbs heavier than the factory motor so the front should be fine but id do some digging on gear ratios and such to determine where you want to be with economy. since your buying the truck specifically for the swap id buy something i have to modify the least so i could put more money in the engine compartment but thats just my .02 cents.

Also id go for it if i could find a good truck to put it in you already have the motor and trucks with blown up motors can be had fairly cheap. And thats a good starting point for you and id say you could accomplish a good reliable build fairly cheap so long as you pick a good starting point.
