not a ranger, but a 5.0 question

So I have an EFI 5.0 in an 88 cougar...auto trans. It starts up and runs just fine when cold, but once it warms up, it just shuts off. It doesnt bog down and then die, it just strait shuts off like someone turned the key. Any ideas?

Its probably the computer getting hot and dying.

Split the computer case apart while its running and see if anything is getting super hot. If it is take a can of air duster flip it upside and freeze the parts and see if that is the issue.

Im taking a guess here based on the number of parts you have already replaced.

Thanks man ^ didnt even think about that...The car has been sitting in a field since 2006, so its possible there is a bunch of dirt and mouse poop around there...Had to replace a bunch of wiring already.

Yes, it was the TFI module I bet, same thing happened to me before on my 5.0.

If you don't have a timing light just crank the timing up till it pings and then back it off a bit.

We timed it by cranking it, but think its off a couple degrees...between that and the bigger intake and fuel it doesnt run right...so Friday we are taking it to the guy who tuned my friend's turbo mustang...Hes going to give it a good once over, compression tests and all that and tune it to accomadate the mods.
