Disc Error on radio

Hello,
I'm new to this site and have a question. I have a 2002 Ford Ranger 4.0 ext cab truck. In the truck I have a single disk CD/radio. The radio works all the time, I can even change stations, with the "pre-selected buttons". However at times the display flashes "Disc Err". I don't play any CD's only radio and there's no CD in it. The radio still works while it's flashing, just can't tell the time. When it decides to quit the time comes back and it's still correct.

Does anybody have any idea? Do I need to replace the radio or is there a fix for it?

Thanks.

The radios in that era were known for doing stuff like this. I had the fancy 6-disc player in my 2003, and it failed in the same way. Eventually it just completely went out and stopped doing anything. Single CD head units are cheap these days, so it's not even worth trying to fix this one or put in a used one.

Have you tried a re-boot? Like a computer. You will have to set the clock again but sometimes electrical things get a glitch.Undo the negative battery cable for a few minutes reconnect and see if that solves the problem.Worth a try.

I've had to replace the battery due to age, so the cables have been disconnected.
