Hey everyone, this is what I am thinking for the new sound system. A couple of weeks ago I traded an old guitar for a couple of Kicker cvr 12" subs, they are rated at 1200 watts each. So I am going to build a custom box for them. I am in looking at getting a Boss Dst2500d a class D mono Block 2500 watt amp for only $70. So if I am getting subs of course I have to upgrade my door speakers. So I am looking at some Boss CH6930 Chaos Series 6x9 3-way speakers with a 400 watt high output. So with these I am getting a second Boss 400 watt amp, the CE 404 4 channel. So what do you guys think? I am willing to modify the hole in the door if the 6x9's are a bit to big.

Reads like a nice system and should **** off the neighbors quite well



On a practical note, the sub amp will need a larger wire for ground and power, use a "key on" relay rated for the amps needed and inline fuse for that amperage to battery.

 

Keep in mind the Kicker CVR 12" is rated 1200 max, probably more like 800 RMS. You would have to check. The boss audio amp doesn't even give an RMS rating for 1 ohm. Based off the max ratings though you should be good with that setup.

Are the Kicker CVR 2 ohm or 4 ohm?

Also, keep in mind that your speaker/amp setup will not get to the sound levels you probably want it to. You're only pushing out 50 watts RMS to each speaker, which is probably about what they can handle.

 

I think your trying to be obnoxious. I can shake the cab of my ranger with 700 watts RMS. Also What Gary said. Don't be surprised if those speakers can't handle much more that 50 watts.

 

I would look for something better than boss. Boss is very low end, might get 700watts rms out of it if ur lucky. Cvrs are 400rms iirc

 

your doors will have to be modded to hold 6x9 i have kicker 6x9's up front and i had to bend the edges of the opening just a bit to get them to sit in there i think rangers use 5x8?

They are dual 4 ohm voice coils and it looks like the RMS rating for 4 ohms is 1500, not sure if that is just for one sub since 1500 x 1

I'm not trying to be obnoxious, I have always thought that having more and not needing it is better then having less and needing more is the best way to go. I don't want to have to worry about blowing my system. I'm careful like that

So i'm dyslexic and I was thinking that Boss was the same as Bose lol, so what would you suggest as a decent brand for speakers?

 

What is your budget for everything?

 

So when I am looking at amps should I be looking to match the peak wattage or the RMS wattage?

 

Around $300 but I am willing to spend what i need for a good system

You've kind of got the right Idea. The name of the game with subwoofers and amplifier combinations is efficiency. The second problem you run into is that manufactures will lie. All of them. I use a 700 watt RMS amp (Which, i've never measured, but i know its not that) to power a dual 4 ohm sub (ran in parallel) which should require a max power of less than 500 watts.

Since the amp dosen't have to work as hard to power the sub, your able to push it a bit more.

 

Sounds like you have some good experience with sound systems, I have a buddy who told me to set up my system with a "buffer zone" basicly the same thing you have with the 700 watt amp and the 500 watt sub you have a 200 watt "buffer zone". Anyway thanks for your input Alex it is reassuring to know that my buddy isn't the only one out there who thinks like this.

 

So I guess I have this set up in my truck right now TIS Audio T510PK 5-Channel Amplifier with Loaded 10" Subwoofer
so my question to you guys is would this amp work for the Tarantula 5x7 speakers and save me the $106 for the 500w amp? The TIS that is in my truck has a RMS output of 350w and the soundstream 500w amp is at RMS 250w just want to make sure I'm not missing anything, being new to this stuff.

 

Got my sub boxes sketch out and all the pieces cut out, ready to be assembled. I am using 3/4 MDF and am planning on lining the boxes with polyfill and I have a 1 1/4" ring around the hole so there is an 1 1/2" depth for the screws.

 

I have never heard of this brand but it looks cheap, and that amp is a 5channel. Looks like it wouldn't be enough power for those kickers and it's 75watts peak per channel and 400 peak for subs, the soundstream is 80rms x 4ch @4ohms

 

Got the subwoofer boxed put together and sanded. Put them in my truck and they fit beautifully! Now I have to get carpet and put polyfill inside.

Thanks guys! Im really happy with the way they came together. They feel really solid and leave more room then I was thinking they would. Planing on getting a couple of tool box latches to hold them together and to keep them from moving around. Is it common to mount the boxes to the floor or is that just over kill?

 

i have two kicker comp. 10s 275 watts running to them. i have 4 kicker 6x9 in the doors and in the back two, and also 6 tweeters. keep in mind that i have a reg cab. lol talk about loud.... btw good job on the box!
