iPod mounting location....what are ya'll running?? Pic Request

Hey,

So I'm finally going breakdown and get a mp3 player. I've just realized how many cds I have in my truck, and most of those cds are mp3 cds. It'll likely be a 80g or 160g iPod classic.

So....

How do ya'll have these mounted in the truck?? My little brother has the panasonic cable from the headunit to the ipod and just lets the ipod sit on the seat and slide around. I do have a '99 ranger shorty console now that I'll likely route the cable to.

Pic request: iPod in-vehicle mounts.

Thanks!!

Shane

I'd like to know how people do this too, I've heard some guys controlling the ipod from the head unit while leaving the ipod in the glove box, that sounds like the cleanest idea to me...

im going to get the alpine idax100 i think it is...runs like that...glvoe box ipod...there are many out there that do that...

my last one i had a single din so i had my ipod/mp3 player chilling in the cubby from the single DIN adapter

fddriver02 has this harmon kardon adpater thing where there is a screen that he mounted on top of his dash and then has a scroll wheel type device that is separate that navigates the ipod...IIRC

One of my friends has the iPod in his glove box so you'd never even know it was there. I forget what the head unit is.

Before I changed out my consoles, I ran my iPod via an AV cable I hid inside of the ashtray. I would plug the ipod in and just reach down and change the tracks as I wanted. It was simple, but it worked:

i mount them all in the glove box or center consol depending on what car it is and what i have to pull out. i have mine in my car in my center consol. the ranger when i get it will be a custom mount... so i just have to slide it into the slot next to the airbag switch and it plugs in and i will just have to pull it out when i am done.

i ran the wire from the back of the head unit to the bottom of the dash. because i control the ipod from the head unit, i tucked it in the little storage space ford has provided. works perfect.

it sucks if ur looking for a particular song though cause it takes a little while to find. the key is to remember the play list and where the song is.

My brother has the Alpine iDA-X001 in his Avalanche - Its pretty sweet. Installed at tweeter and they ran the wire for the ipod into his center console

I have the Alpine EX-10 in my Ranger - I have the ipod and other cables in the glove box for right now until the weather gets warmer and I can do more work on my truck.

All the alpine Ipod controllers have the same menus and support album artwork. It is fullspeed ipod control too so no delays on control.

I think i'll rock the glovebox mod with it.....possibly a mount mounted inside center console. My headunit has the ipod controls similar to a mp3 cd...so that's not a problem. I plan on only having full cds on it though, to make it somewhat easy.

Thanks everyone for the ideas.

My friend has a pioneer head unit in his ranger. and it just has the cable connects from the back of the head unit to the glove box. Works amazingly. IF you plan on getting a new head unit just make sure that you get one with the Ipod controller built in.
Me on the other hand i use a Zune so i just use the from audio connection and deal with it lol

anybody use the "Peripheral Solutions" connector unit?
Apparently, it plugs right into the din on the back of the radio in the CD changer port, and you run the cable to the ipod anyplace.
everything but the cable stays in behind the dash, and it charges the ipod also, control the pod via the radio, or by the ipod click wheel.

According to them, my 2001 in dash CD player(not changer) is compatible.
I just got a ipod nano, and this seems like the best solution, references on this?

if you have the stock single CD player in your truck, you cna add one by installing a ipod2car unit from "Peripheral Solutions".
if you have the factory single head unit, you want #PXDPKF, it comes with all the harnesses to snap into the factory CD changer port on the back of the radio.
the PXDPKF is not compatible with the 6 cd changer radio.

I just got one, and it took about 20 minutes to install, and run the cable.
I plugged the harness into the back of the radio, set the dip switches tot he right config on the PS ipod box, mounted the white PS interface box on top of the radio, bundled the excess ipod cable, and spliced the power and gound right into the 12volt adaper next to the radio.
the only thing I havent done was mount a Ipod holder, I cant figure out where to put it yet, maybe a floor mount in front of the seat, or shifter, or a custom holder bracket under the left edge of the radio console bezel(just up from the 12volt port... I cant decide yet.
For now the cable comes out under the shifter/cupholder console.

it works GREAT, and charges the ipod, and powers it.
You cna use the radio controls, or the ipod wheel no problem.

I found mine on Amazon for $89 (they sell for $120-150 usually), and its pretty damn killer that I dont have to change the head unit.

PS: if pulling the factory radio, you need the DIN radio puller tools, they are like $3 at walmart:D

this is the unit, if the pic below dont work, heres the amazon URL:
