A Pioneer 6 disk changer is an awesome package for a 2004 Edge.

You may MIGHT consider swapping out the speakers for Alpine, but I wouldn't mess with what you have in reality. Adding an AUX option would be money well spent.

Aftermarket stuff can be real crap is you're not careful. Replacing the door and rear speakers is as far as I would go with a Pioneer 6-disc system. Now, you may want to add an AUX connection to the setup along with say, Alpine speakers.

But to put more than $300 in materials cost into your system would be wasting money. Get an AUX addition, and PERHAPS, better speakers, and pocket the rest.

My 6 disc changer gave out on me years ago, it seems to be a common problem with the changer itself.

I replaced it with a Kenwood KDC794 and it sounds awesome.

Just the headunit replacement made a huge difference, then I got an amp for the door speakers and that made another improvement.

I already had a sub and amp with the stock headunit and I had no issues when I switched.

It actually sounded better since the Kenwood had a separate sub channel

I ditched my stock 6 cd changer a week after I got my truck lol. Still works perfectly. But I had a pioneer headunit before I had the truck. So I slapped that in. Then I put in JBL components up front and coax in the rear. No amp yet. Sounds amazing for what I spent on it.

Audio upgrades are well worth the price if you drive a lot. I commute 3 hours a day. So having a good audio system makes the drive very pleasant.

I wish that the aftermarket stuff didn't look like a 1970's pinball arcade.

Can they not duplicate the OEM appearance without the neon, LED, glowing effects?

I installed Alpine's upfront and Clarion Tri-Ax in the rears coupled with a 11 year old OEM Ford - CD radio.

Only the AUX input is missing and that seems to be really pricey.

Aftermarket is too much "flash" for me. But then again, I came from under-dash 8-track players as "all the rage" back in the mid 1970's.

it already has upgraded pioneer speakers all through the truck including the 3 tens in the back and it sounds great, im just wondering if puting a aftermarket radio will keep the same quality in sound, just a little more "kick"

An aftermarket head unit will make a difference. Even on stock speakers my pioneer unit was an incredible upgrade. The eq settings alone are worth the upgrade.

I'd suggest a pioneer unit. Best I've ever dealt with. Love em.
