Let me start by saying I know absolutely nothing stereo related other than how to turn the volume up and complain about the stock setup sucking ***. Anyways, my buddy gave me a new set (2) of Pioneer 6x9s. The magnet says they are 4 way 250s and they are pretty friggin' big. I can't imagine how you guys stuff 6x9s into the doors and I would think I would need an amp to run them? Before I go tearing my door panels off, would someone please enlighten as to what I have, what I can do with them, and how to do... Thanks in advance...

I put 6X9's in the back doors of my 4 door so I'm not sure if the way I did it will work on a regular cab. The important part is the depth of the speaker & clearance. If you wish, go to my CarDomain site & see how I did it. It may give you some pointers or ideas on how to adapt it for your needs. If you need some help, just let me know. 5X7's will fit as they are essentially a 6X8. :D

Alon. You have to make sure you buy 5X7's that are marked for the Ranger. Most speaker makers add on the extra mounting holes. Some do not. Try to return them for some that are made for Ford Ranger.

I have 6x8 Jensens in all positions and they fit fine, except you have to pay attention in the rear because of the shape of the hole. Put in one way they fit, and the other way they didn't and the problem was clearance for the wiring lugs.

I have an extended cab, but a not a 4 door. That is, a two door.

3liter.. right now you have 5x7's.. like john said, 6x8s will fit in there as well... your 6x9s can fit in the doors with out any need of an amp or anything else.. it's just going to possibly require a little bit of trimming to let the larger speaker slide in there.. like a few others said, if you do it, make sure there's clearence behind the speaker for your window, etc... if thhere is a clearence problem, just build a simple little spacer ring to bring the speakr further into the door panel (dont bring it too far tho, you dont want it against the actual panel at all! leave enough room for the cone to be able to move when you're listening to your raidio)

and alon, you dont have to get different speakers, those will fit easily.. those damn factory holes they have all along the mounting ring of the speakers seem to never line up in any car for me perfectly.. all you have to do is make your own mounting ring out of some sort of small particle board, or anything that's strong enough to hold the speaker in place.. takes like 5 mins to trace the speaker and cut it out!!

Update on my CV... not sure if I told you guys...

I put pioneer 6x8's in the front and back and they fit just about perfect. 6x9's will not fit unless you can figure out how to make a bracket for it and the grill will not fit over the 6x9 so they would be uncovered. not worth the effort in my opinion, just get some 6x8's.

My 6x9s are in small wedge shaped boxes behind the seats, and wired in parallel with the stock rear speakers.

If they do fit, I imagine they would fit in the rear the easiest. I'm sure they would fit in the doors, but not without a little work.

Mounting depth is the biggest issue.

With the larger speaker (6x9) usually comes a deeper top mouning depth, which in the rear is the biggest issue. It's easier to widen a hole than it is to beat metal back so it fits. Front doors still have to be concerned about interference with the window glass, but no where near as concerned as in the rear.

They are waaaay too deep in the rear. They protrude about 1.5 inches from where the stock ones do and thats with the magnet touching the back of the cab...

I'm working on getting a set of Rockford Fosgate Type RF's 6x9 2ways in the back (100 rms, 200 max) and set of 6.5 componet speakers up front, also Type RF (100 rms, 200 max) and Lanzar 4 way amp that would send 100 rms and 200 max to each speaker. And if you know RF then you know Type RF is the best they offer, and are lud as ***.
