Capaciter, dimming lights....???

Got that classic dimming headlights when playin that music, runnin a sony explode 04' 1200 watt amp and infinity reference 12" sub, but want something to get rid of the dimming lights, especially with the new pulleys and efan I just put on.

Don't know much about this area, but think I need a capaciter or something like that. Anyone want to let me know what I need to fix this and a budget friendly recomendation far as brand, size and such?

you should be able to get a 1/2 farad capicitor at any local store and it will easily hook up and solve your dimming head lights problem

edit: you can go with a larger size capacitor if you feel it to be necessary

Bigger can't hurt, but was trying not to listen to local store cause they cost more money than I want to pay you know. Hoping to snag one offline for a good price, just don't know what I am looking for or where... Like what you said with the 1/2 farad, I don't have a clue what that means...

there are all different sizes, and a quick search online will bring up many many options...i have even seen them at the local wal-mart in the audio section and they were significantlly cheaper there than at the best buy i looked at

i just did an ebay search and about 4,000 results came back with what you are looking for

a power cap is bandaid fix......the true fix for the dimming headlights is a bigger alternator........all a power cap will do is mask the problem....there will still be a strain on your system......

FYI: a 1/2 farad power cap per 500 watts of RMS amp you have.....

You could also upgrade your big 3 to help a lil bit. It improves your grounds to make for faster connections and easier transfer.

Just to confirm, this is just a quick dimming when something like big bass hit takes place, right? We aren't talking your lights are dim the entire time you have the stereo on?

^only if you did the crank pulley alone- but an overdrive alternator pulley would correct that..

A capasitor Is a Capasitor. I would suggest the alt. upgrade. But if you want a cheap easy quck fix than go to ebay.

Maurice is right. There are things on ebay that can be more expensive if not the same price. It all depends on what you are looking for.

i think we are all in agreement here, of course there will be the sellers out there to try and get more money than the item is worth, but if you watch and shop wisely than ebay can be a good way to save money

- have you decided which route you are going to take Nik ?

No, but I don't know what the big 3 is? An alternator sounds nice as I want lights and will no doubt need it for that... Maurice which one (alternator) did you get and where?

What size cap should I get (gonna be on top of alt and soon lights (4-6 100w)) to keep everything in optimum performance?

What bout spark plug wires too?

Sorry bout getting back to you guys so late, been really busy with work and school.... Thanks for the help though for sure...

Where do you go for upgraded, higher-output alternators? Especailly for late models - I'm partly asking on pushdeck's behalf, but for me also. Mine is an '07 though - I bet there are big differences between 1999 and 2007 alternators. Any sources?

Will THIS fit the 3.0? On jsunes they say that their 200amp fits both the 3.0 and 4.0 in that year range, so I am wondering if this one would fit my truck. Anyone know?
