poor man sound deading
so this past week i put in all my door speakers and wired em up to my amp.
and since i couldnt afford dynamat and didnt want to pull everything off again to wait on fat mat or another deading product, i went to lowes and picked up this roll of roof/gutter repair stuff taht looks exactly like dynamat. it cost me 18bux and i covered my back doors on the inside and around the speakers, and then the same on the front doors. and sealed up the gap around the speaker and the door with some chaulking.
i must say... it helped out reall good! very little flex in the door skins and improved the mid bass a hell of a lot!
so if you want to improve ur stereo for under 20bux i would deff go pick some of this roof/gutter repair stuff up.
and ive heard of other people doing this, and it made their truck smell like tar... no such problem here.

Peel n Seal is one common brand.
It is more like a tar and is not as effective as Dynamat but it does help. Way cheaper than Dynamat but has some odor initially and it melts more easily in hot locations. I have some in my truck but I wouldn't use it where gravity is working against you and adhesion might be a problem - like above the headliner. I used Dynamat up there.

ya i have had no odor problems... and if i ever get an odor from anything thats in my truck, theres this spray you get at o'rileys in a lil mouth freshener sized bottle(like the ones the guys use on dumb and dumber) and u put ur ac on Hi and spray the stuff thru the openings where the wipers are on the outside.. completely neutrualizes any and all smells

I don't know how much you paid for how much square feet, but I bought 50 square feet of this stuff off of ebay for $60 shipped and it was enough to do my entire regular cab truck (floor, doors, back wall, and pillars / didn't do the ceiling). I know it says $59.95 plus $19.99 shipping but it has a best offer option and I tried $20 first and incremented up $5 dollars at a time until they accepted my $40 dollar offer.

maybe if the paper got torn off in spots and it was just the tar substance, but other then that id think it would hold together...

When it gets warm again (90+ degrees) you're going to have a smell like hot asphalt, and you'll be lucky if that stuff doesn't melt and drip off when it gets to be hot. Check out some car audio forums or www.sounddeadenershowdown.com to get some real information about tar mats, peel n seal, etc. and what the heat can do to them.

either you like peel and seal or you don't. i have heard people using it and not having any problems, and others not having it stick and smelling. the adheasion problem probally comes from lack of prep work (making sure the surface is cleaned really good befor aplication). i personally use second skin. the pice is alot cheaper thay dynacrap. and i have never had it fail on me. plus Ant is a really nice guy.
