Speakers?
I need a little help im going to update my stock speakers, going to leave the factory cd player in the truck but i was wondering what every one thinks about the difference like putting 3 way in the front and 2 way in the rear or maybe the other way around or 3 ways all the way through? Having to use 6x8's sort of limits me on what ive got to pick from. I appreciate all help

I can't speak for putting speakers in a truck, but in my old nissan I had 3 ways front and back, 6s up front and 6x9s in back... sounded great. Roundng it out with a pair of subs is highly recommended, of course, but making that happen in a single cab pickup would be a bit more challenging.
As far as buying the right size speakers, check out sonicelectronix.com. You can look up the speakers by size, and you'll like the variety, and the prices there.

I bought the Pioneers from walmart too about 6 years ago, ran about $150.
Got 2 sets of Kickers from SonicElectronix, and put them in my wife's car, they were pretty low-tire because her car had a weird console and I couldn't trade out for an aftermarket stereo without a LOT of pain.. Cost maybe around $80. I got the 6.5s for about $35, and the 5x7s for $45 if I remember right.
gotta love the internet...

Sadly, Wal-Mart prices on car audio is ridiculous.
If average people knew about the equipment I install everyday Wal-Mart would never sell a damn thing on that isle.
The only thing I have ever bought from the Wal-Mart car audio isle was fuses, because a pack of 4 80A were only $1.50.
Now, not all the equipment is garbage, but it definitely isn't worth what they charge.
Sonicelectronix is a great site, I've been using them at least 2 years.

I bought Pioneer TS-A6882R 6" x 8" 4-Way 280-Watt Speakers on Ebay for $46 a pair. Just added a plain old 200 watt amp to stock HU and it really sounds great. Later added a sub for really low (under 50 Hz) stuff. The Pioneers actually hit pretty hard with no distortion and are a perfect fit in Rangers. I highly recommend them, despite their low price.
PS: Be sure to get the 4-way ones...NOT the 2-way or 3-way versions of this series speakers!

Old Guy User…
iTrader: (12)
I want to upgrade my complete audio system in my 03 EDGE.
I have the new radio, not installed, and thinking on speakers.
i like ot keep the speakers the same brand as the radio so I am goign with the “D” Series Pioneer Speakers, 2-way, 6 x 8s in the rear and 6.5” Components in the front, small amp and small Sub/Amp combo, thinking 8 or 10.
That said…
I was at the JY last year, picking up parts from one of the best “Clunkers for Cash” Yards I have come across (Ken’s Auto Part, NH) and was taking apart some Ex Sport Doors and noticed it had component speakers, a tweeter and 5.25” spakers mounted to a 6 x 8 panel. looked further found a Pioneer CD 6 Radio, nice enough.
I took the radio, took the front speakers and the rear ones but the rears look the same as the rear in my Ranger, single dish not sure of the power rating.
i mounted the front Pioneer/OEM Speakers in my truck and it made a BIG difference, heard the higher tones, heard the strings on the guitars keys on the piano, never did put the rear Pioneer/OEM speakers in but it may have helped more, never know.
So where is this going, go to a JY, find an Ex Sport w/Pioneer CD6 and pull the speakers, they will sound good with an OEM Head Unit.
If anyone is thinking further here, yes the speakers and Poneer/OEM CD6 will be for sale in the near futher.
