Stock speakers blown, replacements?

Hey all,

Well my speakers are just about gone. With the ex-gf always turning the volume to 12, all my music sounds like crap now. I don't want to invest in a sound system, just replace the speakers. Does anyone have any recommendations for replacing the stock speakers (probably just the front 2)?

I'm currently looking at these , but I'm an audio retard. I have a stock H/U, no amp and wish to keep it that way. Think these would work, or is there a better alternative?

Hmm, alright. I'm browsing the website now. Showing my audio ignorance here, but what is the difference between 3-way and 4-way speakers?

These are nice and cheap (I know, you get what you pay for), and

These are, I assume, what you are referring to.

Of course I'm looking to save $ as much as I can (starting to save for a down payment on a house), but I don't want to sell myself short and get something that's gonna be crap in 6 months (or sooner). Usually don't have my stereo up that loud... loudest is probably loud enough to hear over wind with windows down at 70.

The pioneers are good speakers for the money. They sound a lot better than the stock speakers but I also have an aftermarket head unit. I still have my stock speakers if someone wants to buy them for cheap.

First off the difference in a 3-way and a 4-way speaker is this (the non-super-technical explanation). A coaxial speaker (like the stock ones) have 2 elemnts, one for "highs" and one for "lows". A 3-way speaker has a seperate element for "lows", "mids", and "highs". A 4-way usually splits the "mids" into a low-mid and a high-mid or sometimes they'll have a "super-tweeter" for crisper really highs (the Pioneer 4 ways use this set-up).

Personally, I've had both the Pioneer 6x8 3 and 4 ways. I preferred the 3 ways, as I thought the 4-ways were a bit too high-pitched for me. I also think for the money, the Pioneer 3-ways are some of the best speakers you can buy. They are very clear, even with a stock HU, and it should be very hard to blow them if you don't turn the radio up until all you get is garbage. In my not-so-humble opinion, the stock speakers are absolute garbage. If I was going to take the time to tear the door panel off, I'd never put stock ones in unless I was selling the truck.

Here's a link to the speakers I'd recommend. Spend the 80 bucks, you'll be happy you did.

I just bought a 2007 and hated the boomy, muddy stock speakers. After reading a lot of reviews on Crutchfield and other places I replaced the fronts (as that is where you get the most bang for the buck) with Kenwood KFC-C6880ie. Sounds WAY better--actually decent even with the stock headunit.
I might put some basic 2 way Pioneers in the rear locations too. Can read about the Kenwoods here:

For cheap just go to wal-mart and get a decent set of 3-ways...thats all you need. Also look into Infinity.

Pioneer 6x8 (3-ways)
Those look promising... a nice middle ground between cheap and nice. Any idea how deep these things sit? I think I may need to take out one of my speakers for reference... definitely needs to clear the window and fit behind the door panel too.

I actually have the pioneer 4 way speakers that I bought 2 years ago. They sound awesome with my Alpine head unit, and they sounded great with the factory unit as well. I would go pioneer, they are reasonable in price and the sound quality and durability is awesome!

The Pioneers are engineered exactly like stock, the magnet sits the same depth back. They will fit perfectly.

I didn't have my truck for a day and I put my aftermarket head unit in. My friend with a Ranger had his stock head unit and put in the 3-way Pioneers in all 4 locations. It sounded bad, because the stock HU doesn't have much power, and the speakers took the power. When the lower bass tones would hit, the rest of the music got quiet. Try to find speakers with a low power rating so that doesn't happen, but it probably will if you put in any aftermarket speaker.

Get some decent 5.25" speakers and make a bracket so they fit perfectly into the stock cut out. The smaller speaker won't give you as much bass as stock or replacement 6x8's but will sound better in the long run with the small power from the stock HU. The smaller speaker will have a bit smaller power requirement.

Clarion 3-way 5x7's. $140ish for four of them. They sound great. Drop another $200 on a 10", box, and amp from Wally World and your set (at least for a while)

$48 for 4 3-way speakers from JC Whitney. They sound great. I believe they are Pioneers. Not sure on that but they are a brand name. Just put mine in yesterday and they are nice,

these pioneers that ive looked at and every raves about,
do they need a little amp to power them up a bit?
i was thinking a small 4 channel amp to wire in with the stock HU.

or do you need a new head unit.
i have the MP3 playback MACH radio and so far its pretty awesome for a stock system.

If I was to put them in with a stock head unit, yes I would amp them. I wouldn't run anything but stock speakers off of the stock head unit. You don't need a new head unit, but the wiring would be better and you'd get more quality sound.
