Sorry for the delay, the truck is finally back in the body shop (3 hours away), but I'll have pics of the fiberglass bezel/dash product in the next couple days. Thanks for the interest guys, I'll try to remember this time.

I want to upgrade to something with a screen and GPS Navi (I don't care about BlueTooth), but have heard no-so-great things about motorized units (being the 94' dash is single DIN).

I have three questions:

1) Mounting one in an Explorer console, just below the HVAC controls would be my first option, would this be too low to take full advantage of the GPS and DVD player?

2) Does anyone have an opinion on the Pioneer 5.8" In-Dash Multimedia Player With GPS Navigation System (AVIC-F700BT) unit?

3) Any idea how much lack of heater or A/C functionality I would loose by removing the top center vent in a 94' dash to expand my player to a double DIN size?

Thanks guys.
I had to slightly cut widen the opening in the bezel to fit my F900BT in the Ranger but it wasn't too much and you should not have to do anything to your AC panel or vents if you had the almost double DIN hole already in the dash. Ford double DIN is really @ 1 7/8 DIN. Looks great too. I will have to get some pics. The F700BT is almost the same as the F900BT but the 900 has a few more features and DVD support.

i wouldn't recommend the new avic series... they are slow and not very responsive compared to the kenwood double din units. i have a kenwood and love it. the touch screen is 100 times better on the kenwood.

Um not at all. That was before the firmwire update, now they rock. Mine isn't slow at all, never had it miss a button push either. They were pretty bad before the firmware update but Pioneer fixed everything with it.

Which model is it? I've never heard a complaint about that from anyone with the 2.0 firmware.

Updates to come this week. The dash (finished) is in the truck at the body shop so it will be a couple days. I forgot to take pics of it before taking it down, but I don't have it 100% finished, still need to secure the unit and use sealant on the vent.

Thanks for the motivation guys.

fishy2k8 - I have found some units, even with the 2.0 update are slower than others. My buddy's unit it the same model as mine (F700) and his takes about 10 seconds longer to start up to a "useable" screen than mine. I can assure you that mine with the 2.0 update and mild software mods isn't much slower than it takes a regular car CD player to turn on and start playing a CD where left off. I can take a video of start up one night. PS - Like I said on RPS, love your truck, pretty close to how I want mine to look.
