Volfenhag Amplifiers

I'm looking for an amp for my new sub. It's a Pioneer Premier WS2504SPL. It's a 10" 2 ohm DVC that can handle 2500w max and 800w rms. I'm looking at this amp on ebay. Amp

How about a Kicker ZX400.1 The local car audio store recommended that one to me. Or a Kenwood KAC-8103D. I'm torn between the two.

You can get more watts for the price out of a kenwoodthan a Kicker. Kicker might make a better amp but I have good experiences with kenwood and would go with it.

Go with Memphis, my amp has been in 3 cars over the last 2 1/2 years, and it still works as good as the day I bought it. They may cost a little more, but they are great.

He is obviously looking for a cheaper line amp...kenwood will work for his set up. He is prolly not looking for competition quality bass or anything just a normal every day set up. Not syaing Kenwood is the best but its decent and in no way can they be compared to SOSOny.

BTW i can get you a great deal on Kicker and i dont even make a red cent off of the deal. like 150 shipped and the Kickers tend to put out around 460-500
Are you sure the installer did it right haha...just messing with ya. No i dont but have been around audio enough and i guess you could say I know a lil bit. My kenwood did me well and has got good reviews from my friends and all. I have since then upgraded a lil but it was a good amp. And i still dont believe you can compare Sony and Kenwood.

I looked at a Kenwood that was comparable to the Kicker one. They are priced similar and have similar specs. The thing that gets me is the smaller size of the Kicker one.

Yeah, I checked out a Brutus BXi 1206D. It was 600 watt rms at 2 ohms. I liked it but they are kinda pricey.

It has been a LONG time since I was into car stereo, but back then, Soundstrem was the top. I had their Reference Series Pure Class A amplifiers. All I can say is WOW. Stable to 1/2 ohm and temendously powerful / reliable / clear. Powered Boston Acoustics Pro Series speakers all around. Not sure if Soundstream is still as good as they were. HiFonics and Precision Power were both highly regarded amps as well. Like I said though, it was a long time ago - about a Decade!

Well right now I'm looking at the Kicker ZX400.1, the Kenwood KAC-8103D, and the Hifonics Brutus BXi 606. The Brutus is a little less powerful though.

Well I've pretty much decided on the Kicker. I found one on ebay for about $140 shipped. Would I be able to mount it under my seat? And would the seat mounting bolt be a good ground?

Update: I just purchased the Kicker ZX400.1. I just have to wait for it to get here and then I'll have to wait a little bit until I can install it.

One thing I remember from back then was the lesser quality amps always had higher rated output, but it was either flase or at a really high distortion (THD). I remember the look on my co workers face when we first listened to his "200 watt" system with dual 15" free air subs then listened to my car with a single 10" in a properly sized / vented enclosure with Soundstream "100 watt" amp. Let's just say my 10" BLEW his dual 15s out of the water with depth and sharpness in the low range!

Long and short of it - you get what you pay for and advertised performance isn't always apple-apple comparison. You have to research and compare fine details.

Hehe, yah I love blowing away unsuspectors with my one 10" sub. Everyone always thinks I have atleast a pair of 12's back there.

/nothing to do with the amplifier choice

I've got the subwoofer hooked up to the headunit by itself right now and it hit pretty hard. I like it so far and once the amplifier gets here I should be rattling all kinds of things.
