Ford made a change in the Ranger radio plugs around 98~99. Most earlier trucks used 2 separate 8-pin plugs and the later trucks used a single 16-pin. The exception is that some premium sound units may have been using the 16-pin before the general changeover.
Even if you do have the two 8-pin connectors in your dash harness, you should be able to find a simple aftermarket patch harness that will allow you to easily adapt to the later 16-pin factory radios.
