Ok soo my truck came with factory satalite radio and a aux input for a ipod etc. its a 08 and i just got back from best buy. I want to run a sub and the easy way is to change to a aftermarket radio but they say you cant use the factory antenna and that would look like total junk to me with two. They also said the Aux imput wouldnt work but thats not a total loss. Any Ideas? Thanks

hmm i think it's a hard question for non-08 owners to answer because our truck radios apparently are different. Here's some questions.

Factory antenna doesn't work? Are you saying factory sat antenna? Just buy a new sat receiver for your new headunit. It'll cost a lil bit extra but would be worth it. Why is the factory sat antenna not able to work? If its plug and play there should be some solution.

Factory AM/FM antenna? Meh, who cares.

Aux input? Is it just a port on your stock head unit? Or is it a sneakily ran cable/hardwired port in arm rest? Even so, it probably plugs in to the head unit somewhere so it should be a replaceable part.


Hope that random rambling can help you on a direction somehow. It's not too hard/bad to get a new satellite antenna setup. www.cardomain.com sells them, for one retailer.

 

I think he doesn't want to have 2 sat antennas for aesthetic purposes. There has to be way to make the factory sat antenna work with a aftermarket unit.

x2 They haven't the slightest clue there and are only wanting to make a sale. Do some Google searches on that sat. antenna plug.

 

basically to clear it up, i want a after market radio with my factory siruis antenna being used. and if i removed it yes there would be a hole in my roof.

 

we understand, we just dont see why the factory sirius antenna wont plug into an aftermarket radio (or aftermarket sirius reception box)

 

Im thinking it might, josh- lets take a look at it this weekend. it might have the same inputs that will switch right over, like how the regular antenna is.

 

I've wondered about this as well. Let me do some calling around and I will report back what I find out.

 

I just got off the phone with a technician from Crutchfield and he said that the factory satellite radio tuner would not work with an aftermarket receiver. You would have to get a satellite radio tuner that is compatible with the receiver you get. I am sure that you could mount the new tuner in the factory location behind the glove box for a clean install. I was also told that you should be able to retrofit (change out the adapters) the factory antenna to work with the new tuner. The auxiliary input wire should plug into the auxiliary input on the back of the new receiver.

I've torn my dash apart to figure this out myself. From what I can tell, by searching and looking only at pics online, the factory sat. antennae should plug into an aftermarket receiver. All you would have to do is take the factory receiver out, which sits behind the glove box. That's the hard part. I was able to take 3 out of the 4 screws....you'll need something like a ratcheting box end wrench. There isn't enough room to get a socket plus the ratchet on the excessively long screw.

I'm about to pick up a new Sirius SC-C1 that I'd like to use with the factory antenna in my '09. Can anyone confirm definitively that the factory antenna plug connects to the SC-C1?

And - this may be a long shot- does anyone have installation pics for accessing the factory Sirius tuner?

I emailed one of the installers there, who confirmed the factory Sirius antenna from a 2008 Ranger does indeed plug right into the SC-C1 after removing a plastic clip that surrounds the plug.

 

I could be completey wrong but either way I will know this weekend as I am 99% gonna get a clarior vx409 unit

so far clarion is the only one that i have seen that has a SSD ready unit........all you need is the sc-c1

everyone one else, alpine, kenwood, pioneer etc etc you need to buy there adapter plus the sc-c1 unit

Very cool - I like how the Clarion unit requires no adapter.

I actually completed my install a bit over a week ago and all went according to plan. The factory antenna's clip removes without tools and then plugs into the SC-C1. I mounted the SC-C1 and the JVC adapter I needed side-by-side in the same location as where the factory Sirius tuner had been.

Slightly off-topic for this thread but worth mentioning: If you're replacing your rear speakers as part of your install, the rear door panels are a bugger to remove without breaking the clips. Don't attempt without the appropriate tools, and definitely don't do this in a cold garage as I did.

And as per your aux input, If your new headunit has an imput on the back of it for an aux wire, simple remove the harness from the old input located below your climate controls, pop out the input plug, buy a new one from radio shack or something, super glue it in place, and route the wire to the deck,
