Audio Shop ???s
Based on experience, would I be better off price-wise purchasing a 4 channel amp at wholesale price on ebay along with the wiring, and bring it to a shop to have it installed, or buy at the shop at there prices? Do most shops give you good deals. I have this one by my house that I have been to twice before and purchased from them but it was kind of expensive and they didn't help me out with covering installation or anything.

Stereo places around me are all for wheelin' and dealin'. Forexample, a few years back when I bought my system, I bought my sub, amp, and wires from one place. I was acting real hesitant to drop a load of cash......then we started throwing around prices. It was a slow day and they needed a sale.....so i roughly got 25% off their asking price for everything.
Best part, I traded my old 10" truck box and $20 and got a 12" hatchback SubZero box!
I'd go in there and see what they can do for ya. Me personally, am a little weary of purchasing that type of item off ebay, but that's probably just me though. My next setup will likely be off ebay just for the hell of it. Cuz local shops want an *** load for L7's.

when it comes to sound systems, its really.... you get what you pay for.
your best bet is to not settle for cheap products to get it "right now!" save your money and spend smart. i dont know how much bass your loking for but dont settle for that walmart/kmart/ebay stuff because its cheap and it sounds powerful. ill tell u what. its not.
I would recommend a single 12'' Alpine Type-R. Non-Ported box(hits harder) and highphonix or Alpine Amp. ur looking roughly around $500 for everything if you do yourself.
i will be installing my single 12" Alpine Type-R and 2400watt Rockford Amp this weekend so if u want i will make you a picture by picture and step by step guide on how-to.

I buy some stuff off ebay. Parts for my truck like the air raid intake, brake lights, head lights, xenon bulbs, etc.
I am hesitant about purchasing electronics off of ebay though. Electronics can have problems as we all know and the hassle of getting them returned through ebay usually is not worth the extra money you save.
Personally I would not buy car stereo stuff off of ebay. If you want to save some money look at crutchfield.com or other sites like it. Watch the deals and buy something off of there. Atleast they are reputable site and if you have problems returning the item will be a lot easier than trying to return an ebay item.
I would also suggest using your local stereo dealer as someplace to gain knowledge about the products. Thats how I learned in the past, talked with the salesman, the techs, read online about the products before making the purchase.
goodluck
