Ipod and Sirius sharing Aux?

My Sony HU has an 3.5mm aux port in front, and RCA outputs in the rear. I used to have the RCA>3.5mm cable that I ran out to my sirius, and then unplugged it and put it in my Ipod when I wanted to listen to that.

I don't want to over explain and confuse everyone, the point is that I have two ways of listening to "aux" , so really I could have one cable going to the ipod from the RCA and one to the sirius from the aux port , but I only have one "aux" selection on my radio (tuner/cd/aux). What would it do if had them both hooked up? The reason I'm asking is because buying a new RCA>3.5mm cable would be a waste of 15 bucks.

Sorry about the confusing post, hope someone has tried this.

From my understanding...you can have both hooked up to the same "aux" in spot....but only one turned on at a time. I have my PS2 and Dvd player hooked up like that.

But you can't have both on at the same time. I'm no audio guru, but it's just my thought.

You can hook them both up at the same time, but if you are good with soldering you could just solder a 2 way switch to a board and mount the board in a box and mount the box somewhere so that you can just flip a switch to choose which signal source you want.

I'm a plumber, I'm great with soldering! Just not the kind you are referring to lol. I think I will do what FX4wannabe suggested, and plug them both in, but only turn one on. Thanks for the replies guys.

I got the RCA>3.5mm cable today, but it is a no-go. I can't get the Ipod or the Sirius to play from the RCA hookups like I could do with my old HU.

What is even more confusing: while everything was apart, I took the 3.5mm to 3.5mm plug that used to run the Ipod and the Sirius out, and it was not being interfered with at all. I was getting some crazy feedback when using the ipod, we thought it was getting pinched. Right now my ipod works with the HU in the mornings and at night, but not in the afternoons when it is hot.

Sounds like you have a bad ground in your HU, when the HU is cool its connections are tight but when it heats up it loosens up.
Or it could be the cable, there might be a micro break in the cable (probably on the ground) and when the cable heats up in the afternoon it stretches ever so slightly allowing a slight gap to form in one of the wires, and when its cool every thing seems normal and works fine.
