What amp do I need?

I just bought 2 new Audiobahn Alum12N's that have dual 6 ohm voice coil's
1000w rms and 2000 watt peak each. I was wondering if I should get a mono channel amp or a 2 channel amp. Anybody got any recommendations?

Get an amp that is rated at about 1200W @ 2ohms or 800W @ 4ohms for each sub if they are each wired in parallel. If they are wired in series, well I don't recommend that. Parallel-Series wiring, about 2500W @ 4ohms...good luck.

Series wont hit as hard.

Get an amp that puts out 1500-2000watts a channel at 6 ohm. Dont run a 2 ohm amp.

Get a mono class D that is 1 ohm stable, wire them up parallel down to 1.5 ohms.
And, ah, yeah, those are no where near 1000rms each, actual is more like 300. I highly doubt they're even 1000max. Seem like they'd be fairly decent for sq though from their low freq. specs.
I recommend an amp with no more than 800rms. I'll look for some and post links.

Hifonics Brutus amps are awesome, and can handle 1 ohm:

This one is mean, it would definately kill your subs with no problem but would power them really well.

Not sure what you want to spend, these are the best for 1 ohm capability, any others are much higher priced.

Yeah I was thinking of spending up to 300 for the amp, but w/ that mono amp how would you recommend wireing it?

Look on here under the parallel calculator, put 6 in 4 boxes as your setup would be:
http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp

You wire the positive from the amp to each positive on each voice coil, do the same for the negative.
You'll be running 1.5 ohms which should work well.

Alright that sounds easy enough. But I was wondering about Memphis and Infinity amps, how do those compare to that Hifonics Brutus amp?

Memphis is real decent too, along with Infinity. I don't see many if at all Infinity amps, not sure about them.
If you find a memphis for your price range and power range, go with it.
I'd go with the Hifonics, they're not highly priced and work real well.
Go on caraudio.com forums if you're really interested and questioning yourself about the amps.

1000w RMS or 500W per coil but @ 6 ohms. That's a pain.

Ask Lumadar about what he thinks of HiFonics. He's got experience with them.

They're not anywhere near there. Audiobahn specs their stuff insane high. Look at Resonant Engineering subs, the SX 12, a true 1000rms weighing in at over 22 pounds, just look at them, awesome. Then the audiobahn in this topic, at 7 pounds, I know weight isn't everything, just look at the potential. 15 pounds is a difference also.

The 6 ohm difference from 4 changes some power too, but not that much.

They are 6 ohm speakers. Get a 6 ohm amp. Will be cleaner.

First find a six ohm amp, second, how would you wire 4 coils to it, efficiently? Third, they make them 6 ohm so you can wire them down to 3 or 1.5 ohm.

Burden of proof is on the naysayer.

500 watts a coil really isn't too farfetched. Probably more than average, but not too far fetched by any means. About weight Audiobahn has a pretty slick basket of some type of cast aluminum (with the chrome you either love or hate) that is very strong, yet pretty light.

6 ohm subs are for those who want to subs in sets of 3. 3 parallel subs, coils wired in serial = 4 ohm mono load. Or 1 ohm mono in with each coil in parallel to the other. That would be fun to wire.

You don't have to stick with a 6 ohm amp. Matching ohm ratings doesn't give you anything. Just make sure your amp is stable at the ohm load you plan to give it. Then research or calculate the RMS Wattage it'll put out at that resistance, and try to keep RMS ratings relatively close. Doesn't have to be exact, but stay in the ballpark for the best balance.

Of course different manufacturers will rate their products differently, but most are underrated. That's one advantage of buying all from one manufacturer.

I was just reading up on the Hifonics Brutus amps. Alot of people said they didn't last for them, and running at 1 ohm isn't a good idea with them. I don't recommend them now.
It may be a good choice though, these people were running some serious subs.
Your subs seem to be ok for SQ.

SX 12 weighs 25 on the scale, just weighed it,(i have my old onme sitting in my room ) its rms should be 1200, because i had 1200 on it for 6 months, and even re said 1200 wouldn'teven get close to killing it, personally i wouldn't run more than 1500 to them

how about a better example my XXX weighing in at 56lbs on the scale, 1600rms, i have 2300rms going to it , people run orion 2500s to it all the time, and notice the new XXX coming out soon next to the old XXX

XXX next to a regular kenwood 12(ouch that hurts)
XXX next to a SE which has about same size magnet as SX

none of these are mine, i gots a 15 :)

sorry i love pictures

get at least a 1500rms mono amp @1ohm*atleast* maybe if you want to test your luck you could try a 2000rms amp but your electrical will not like it and you wouldnt get 2000 watts for real, unless you got a bigger alt like 200a or so

I ran the HIFonics 1500 and it worked for about 6 months and it went kaput. Mind you, I do play my **** hard (1 ohm too) and I also literally have the WORST luck in the entire world. ie i just bought a JL 1000/1 NEW in box and it was bunk from the manu....odds in that?

Lol but my other buddy has had the 1000 watt hifonics and the zx6400 no problems for 2 years strong. I also did another custom install with the 1500 and the 6400 over a year no problems and they sound great. I probably just had bad luck with that one...

And for the price you can get them on Ebay you simply cannot beat that price per watt with true, clean power.
