hey guys.

i already have my whole system decked out. but when i installed all of it my self, i didnt have a box, so i backwards mounted behind the drivers seat. now im thinking that i should get a box.

i have a 94' XL cab. there is little room, and i dont know what kind of box to put in there. any ideas? ive got a 12inch MTX sub.

so you're saying you had the subs hooked up WITHOUT a box?!?!?!

and FYI not having a freaking box certainly does NOT make you system "decked out"

 

You have a 3rd gen regular. Your options for a box are really limited because the ca is so small. It is hard with my 4th gen and I have 3 more inches of room.

 

i have it mounted to the back of the seat, so i didnt need a box. its hard to explain, but it worked pretty well.

hahaha, not to the seat, to the back wall of the cab, behind the seat. lol, ill take picture tomorrow when i have some daylight. or a camera.

but its really redneck. lol. i makes my seat radial like noooo other. its a full body message. i recommend it. when your outside of the truck, all you hear when the bass hits is shaking sheet metal. sounds like crap when your outside. but hey, its the inside that counts. hahaha

Wow. This sounds like my friend with a 93 Toronado. Put 2 12" subs in the rear seats.

Definitely get a truck box. Even if it's small, I'm willing to bet it will sound better because I'm sure your subwoofer isn't a free air type.

 

no box. what so ever. its just sub, mounted right to the wall. and i put the seat back all of the way so it makes direct contact with the sub. so it just shakes the hell out of me. hahaha

 

dude subs need to be in a box, otherwise they aren't really acting as sub woofers, just speakers with more bass.

 

i know,... i just didnt have money at the time for the box. so i just mounted it anyways. i just need to know what kind i need.

 

Box

This would probably work but it depends on the mounting depth of your subwoofer. Do you know the model number or whatnot of the sub?

 

I'm at school right now so I don't really know. I know it's a mtx road thunder it's maybe like 6 to 8 inches deep. I'll give you the model number age I get home.

 

Well the 12" MTX Road THunder has a 5.5" mounting depth. So that posted box likely won't work even though it claims to have a 5.5" mounting depth as well. If anything get a spacer from the seller or find a bigger box.

I just know that single cab Ranger's don't have a lot of room to work with behind the seats.

EDIT: This box would work just fine as long as there is room behind your seat. I don't have access to a single cab Ranger but I would measure from the back of the wall to the back of the seat at the bottom to see if this would fit. You need at least 8.5" of space between the seat and back wall.

 

find somebody that has a 10" in a truck box and trade them.

that area is just too tight for a 12. you said it's redneck, so I'm assuming that you're listening to rock or country, a 10" sub is great for that kind of music.

 

No and No. Those boxes are too big. I had one in my regular cab and it was too big and my cab is 3" bigger than his.

 

a box should make a nice upgrade!

Even the first box I posted was too big. Holy crap. I didn't think the cab had that little room in it. Custom fab time I guess.

 

Yeah they do. It sucks but thats what you get I guess for owning a regular cab.

You best best is to get a shallow mount sub and build a box so that it goes across the whole back of the truck. That would give you the space that the sub needs to sound the best and would allow you to fit it in there.

Under your passenger seat, on the back on the seat, on the back wall. There are lots of places.

Did you take a pic of it yet i really wanna see how it is mounted. Did you ever think or making a wooden box yourself or make a fiberglass one?
