Adding a Power Mic?

I have my little Cobra 19 radio, 5' Firestik and such. Looking to see if it's worth while to add a little Cobra Power Mic (the ~$20 one). Anyone running one, get heard any better?

Thanks!

It's got a 9v in it and is supposed to help your modulation and broadcasting to other people.

I dont understand how a mic would accomplish this. I thought the radio and the antenna were the only things that mattered.

It's probably a mini Cobra (I don't know the models well), so the mic amplifier would be inside the mic and not in the receiver unit. Should check for some reviews on a couple CB mod sites and check their opinion/alternatives, or at least check what the OEM mic output is.

i wouldnt waste your money on that... get an astatic (sp i think theres an H in there somewhere)

every part of your cb set up effects how it performs... how you wire it... how you run your coax.... your ground set up, radio, mic, antenna.. etc

This is my radio here, just a basic CB

I'll look into it. The power for the radio is twisted through the cab, up to the battery post at the main relay/fuse box under the hood. Coax is Firestik brand 'Firering', ran through the cab, through my tool box to the base. No twists, bends, coils, etc. The antenna is grounded to the frame, we used a jumper cable from the antenna mount, to the battery ground and didn't pickup any more umph on the meter. So it's grounded well.

I don't plan on using it much for other than trails, but if I'd like to talk on the highway or something, I'd like a little power. The radio is only pushing about 7watts alone.

Yeah that radio is killing you...

My cobra 29ltd (basic radio)

was putting out 11watts..

Got it peaked and tuned and Im now putting out 60+ watts... So if your really looking to talk to people and get out better i would just upgrade the radio.. can normally pick the cobra 29's up for about 75-80, and a max tuned one for about 140...

Getting an amplified microphone on a CB radio is a total waste of money. You will gain nothing except a lighter wallet. Save your money.
