Need help w/'04 Ranger new radio install

Have a '04 Ranger XLT reg. cab having a bit of trouble with a radio install. No problems with the electrical, it's all working great. The issue is with the Meta 99-5027 install kit for fitting it in the dash. Have the DIN cage and head unit nice and snug in the install kit, but as I push the whole assembly it in to the opening, making sure cables are clear, it just doesn't want to snap in to the bezel. The bottom snaps in but the top won't. Just curious, do I need to take out the factory bottom rail, seems it might be causing the problem but not really sure. Or do I need a better install kit, didn't know if Meta was a good choice or not.

I think I used the same installation kit on my truck for a Single DIN. I seem to recall a similar issue, but needing to remove one of the two "snaps" on both sides of the "pocket". I found it easier to install the bracket with the sheet metal sleeve to the radio bezel, then slide in the head unit til she clicks. Then install the radio bezel with the radio. Don't know if it's improper, but I haven't had the radio fly out in the 7+ years or so since installation of two radios. Now when I remove the bezel, the radio comes with it 'cause it's easier. Thank goodness for wire slack!

No, you do not remove the factory rail. You should attach the supplied bracket to the back of the radio to support the rear of the radio. It can be kind of a pain to locate it at the correct height though. You can get it really close comparing it to your stock radio.

Is this the one?

Thanks for the replies. I'm installing a single DIN and yes that's the kit. Will have to mess around with it some more. I do see a lot of favorable comments about the American Int'l kit as it uses the bottom factory rail.

as a note, the pocket should be on the bottom. also as you might think its not the harness etc, double check it. Some have excess wire and the make an S turn behind the radio causing this problem
