Never had a system before but i'm lookin to build one up. I only have a single cab so i'm gonna start with a single 10" cause i could always buy another if i'm not satisfied.

JBL has gotten better over the years.....they still are not the best on the market......i like Kicker products.....i wont have anything but either Kicker or JL Audio products in any of my vehicles.....

I would spend a little more and get a Kicker.....they have better reliability.....

Generally, JBL is meant to be really friggin loud. They're products are more geared towards pro audio/competition applications than sound quality.

Now if you're looking for sound quality, go with Alpine or Kicker (in terms of what Crutchfield sells) and you may even want to check out that Eclipse amp that they sell. I believe it's a Class D and would probably work very well in a reg cab.

I just built a fiberglass box to house a 15" sub in my Reg cab, but I'm only 5ft. tall, so it works well for me.

My friend had 2 12" kappa perfects and an Infinity amp brigded @ 2ohm and was pushing around 1500w to both of them, we built the boxes and installed everything overnight before a show and man, those subs would handle every last bit of that power without any problems! I beleive any number that JBL/Harmon Int./Infinity puts on there products!

 

my buddy just got that sub and it is omg loud! he's got one 12" and just a bazooka 700watt? amp... it will DEFINTELY shake windows

 

that infinity amp will kill that sub. really.

with that one JBL 250 watt sub on that amp, you would be sending 657 watts to it. not a good idea!!

the amp is nice. really can't loose with it.
you can go several different ways with this though. i would do one of a few things, look for a different lower powered amp for that sub. look to run two 200-300 watt rms subs on the infinity amp. or just run one high powered sub off the infinity.

 

wow, thanks for all the info guys, really appreciate it. i would like to stick with the amp cause i can get a good deal, so i would rather change my options for the sub. as for the Kicker that Maurice posted, would that sub/amp combo be compatible??

but i highly doubt that that amp really pushes out what it says........

 

so do you think i should look for a less powerful amp? my thinking was that i may want to add more at a later date (i.e. another sub, higher quality sub, etc) so i would go with that amp. please correct me if my logic is wrong, still learning as much as i can

You can keep the higher wattage amp if you are going bigger in the future. You won't hurt anything. You will be giving your amp a "break" really. Because your not pushing it to it's MAX output.

 

you can get a lower rated sub, but the gain on the amp will have to be turned way down for it not to blow the sub...

honestly, if you can get a deal on the amp, get it. it's a solid powerplant. the ratings on that amp are pretty accurate. i'd pretty much hold them to it when looking for a sub.

turning the gain on the amp down is not really a solution to running a lower powered sub on a higher powered amp. the gain **** doesn't reduce the amount of power going to the sub. a 600 watt amp is going to send 600 watts of power to the sub whether it's a 200 watt sub or a 1000 watt sub. the gain is more or less a volume control..not a power control.

it would be best to get what you want at once instead of getting one sub now, and another one later. this is for many reasons, one of which is you can get two of the exact same subs, run one for a month alone and then add another one and since it is not broken in, will sound much different. not to mention, if it takes two subs to run off that amp properly, you would be way over powering the one sub you want to run in the meantime and damage it.
one higher powered, higher quality sub will outperform 2 lower quality subs any day.

here's the breakdown with using that amp:

-to run 1 sub at 600watts you will need: 4 ohm DVC sub

-to run 1 sub at 500watts you will need: 2 ohm DVC, an 8 ohm DVC sub, or a 4 ohm SVC sub

-to run 2 subs at 600watts (300w each) you will need: two 2 ohm DVC subs, two 4 ohm SVC subs, or two 8 ohm DVC subs

-to run 2 subs at 500watts (250w each) you will need: two 4 ohm DVC subs


keep those things in mind when looking for subs. should help to narrow down the list, and give you a better idea of what to look for.

That amp will work fine woth anything really. Just keep it low and steady for the smaller subs. Also for the price of the Kicker you can get a TC-1000 or a DB-500 and sound alot better IMO.
