new headunit / amp question

So i have decided my first mod to the truck will be the headunit, I am stuck between two units, so please help me decide

first headunit (i like the styling a little more on this one) : http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SOhuEe5...0&I=070XDM7610

and the other unit which is i guess a much better unit on a BIG discount : http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SOhuEe5...I=133C8303#Tab

what do you think?

Also, we have two old amps sitting around the house, do you think it would be worth my while to install one or both? if so, where should I install it/them? (regular cab truck)

First of all, don't buy anything Duel. Definately go with the Panasonic, or try looking around a bit more before making a decision. You can a decent head unit for the amount your willing to spend on those, or lay off a little while and save up for something better. Second, don't buy from Crutchfield. Although reliable, they're a little overpriced. Try Etronics.com, or you can find a lot cheaper audio equipment on Ebay brand new.

And about the amps: What are you going to power with these amps? Subs? Components? It's important to know what you are going to use it for before throwing it into your truck. When the time does come to install an amp, just make sure it is in a place where it can dissipate heat well and you can get to the controls easy.

Out of the two Panasonic. I wouldnt touch either of them IMO. Check out onlinecarstereo.com also they have great prices over all. Try lookin at like a Pioneer DEH-4900 or above i believe. Great deck and lotsa EQ bands on the more expensive ones. Also the tried and true CDA-9856 from Alpine as well as the newer ones. Dual is a bad choice. I have my Hifonics Amp behind my seat and two subs behind the passenger seat all in a reg cab and fits nicely. I have overheated once but it was my fault and has never happened again.

yeah i agree with them...for the same price you could go alpine or pioneer. For the same price as the second i picked up an alpine CDA-9856 and love it. i don't know alot about pioneer but them and alpine really seem to have a high quality product for not that bad of a price.

The alpine sounds like a good headunit, I am willing to spend a little bit more for a better unit, but nothing really over the $200 range

the Alpine CDA-9856 is the best headunit under $200, and still better than most over $200. it has everything you would need short of getting a screen. you can't really go wrong with pioneer either quality-wise, but i think their design has gotten a bit overdone lately for my taste.

I wouldnt say the best just for the fact that it doesnt have the EQ bands that some others do. Im not saying its bad...heck i have one...just there are other ones out there depending on what he is looking for. The 9856 just doesnt offer the SQ opportunities as others do.
