Scanner and PA installtion

I currently have a handheld scanner (Tuned to FIRE and EMS for our county) and I have been thinking of upgraded to a full-blown scanner that can be mounted in my truck. Scanners are similar to CBs so how did you guys mount your units? Also, is that huge atenna(sp) helping with reception? Aside from the scanner, I was looking at getting a PA system and mounting the speaker behind my front plate. anyone with these kinds of set-ups, how did you mount it all and is working for you? Thank guys

I've got a pa speaker mounted behind my grille beside my alarm siren/speaker.

BTW, you're gonna need a scanner and a cb. I've never seen a scanner with a pa capability.

It doesn't show up in the daylight pics, just the nightime w/flash...

The antenna length depends on the Mhz you will be scanning (Low band, High Band, 500 Mhz, 800 Mhz, or 900 Mhz) You want to get one that fits the PRIMARY band. When my ranger is finished I will have my scanner and CB mounted in an equipment console on the floor. I don't have a PA in any of my trucks but i have a Siren in my F150 and the speaker is mounted behind my front plate.

I don't have any good shots of the CB/PA in the new truck but it's where the OHC would be mounted between the visors.

I have a RadioShack Pro94(handheld) and an antenna(the one mounted to the window) for it. I leave the scanner in the cupholder when I use it and in the console when I am not. My antenna is not very large, I cut it off just below the top(in the picture), it does help with reception alot!

My PA Speaker is behind the plastic in the wheel well of the front left tire:

My buddy EricRanger on this site has a 2000 and he mounted his PA speaker sideways behind the grill. This is the only picture I have of his truck where you can see it:

I got 2 4ft whips behind my cab in the bed and it makes a world of difference in range and clarity. I also have a PA system but its mounted up under my hood well out of sight but plenty loud enough!

Just a heads up regarding a scanner in your vehicle.
Check your state laws before installing one .
Last I checked in NY , It is against the law to have one operating in your car in this state, regardless of what frequencies are in it.

edit to add
I'm a volly firefighter and can run my pager on monitor with no problem , but can't use a portable scanner.
Don't make sense , but that's the way it is.
