So I have picked out my sub, now I need help with the amp

Hey guys, I am a "noob" to car audio and was hoping someone could help me out in letting me know if the amp is a good choice for the sub I am going with.

The sub: I'm going with is a 10" JL Audio W6v2

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=12513

The Amp is where I am stuck.

I have heard good things about JL's amps and was thinking of going with this one:

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=18474

The sub has a RMS of 400 watts and the amp has one of 500 watts. Now I have heard that the sub can handle so much more than it is rated for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

With the 400 watts sub and the 500 watt amp would be fine...what you dont want to do is over power the speaker too much...most ppl think that over powering is good but in most cases its bad on the sub and the sub wont last as long....i think with the set up that you want to go with will be perfect. you also might want to think about a capacitor so your light wont dim every time the sub hits.

Thanks for the help.

I had been recommend to go with the JL stuff by quite a few friends, and just wanted to confirm everything before I drop the money.

What size capacitor will I need? I see the sell them in "farads", what would be a good size to go with?

JL amps are nice, our local target has a "Thump Room" with 10s,12s,and 15s connected to kicker amps, so I gotta say, kicker has a nice pound to them.

you might need a capacitor. with 500 watts rms it might be a good idea. put the sytem in and see if the lights dim when the sub hits. if it dosent you wont need one. if you do have to go with one 1.2 to 1.5 farad should work fine.

DONT GET A CAPACITOR. all it will do is add another strain from the alternator. and it drops the voltage a tad. capacitors are a waste of money.

500 watts will be fine. get an alternator.

JL audio is great. but its WAY OVERPRICED. hifonics has cheaper and better amps, same with sundown and Soundstream.

it pulls power from the battery and stores it, but if u hit like a real hard note, it would have to pull extra from the battery, therefore straining it

or somthin like that
dont get it though....and for under 1k watts, u dont need anything besides a good gauge wiring kit.

hell, i got....or had 1200 watts...dimmed my lights n ****, but it was alright

man i miss subs....
