Total N00b question about amps and subs

Audio is the one thing I have absolutly no clue about on my truck. Heres the question and yes it is a n00b question. I have a factory head unit, and thats not going to change. I also have 2 MTX subs from my old car. Im thinking about buying a cheap amp. Can/how do I go about wiring this beast of a system?

I am a noob too but I am pretty sure they have something that plugs into the factory radio that lets you hook up an amp and subs.

I want to know the same thing, I like the look and functionality of the factory 6-disc. All I've heard is that it sounds bad when you do it, I hope theres some way to make it sound decent.

Theres too much theft in my neighborhood, thats why Im keeping my factory HU. Im not going to have it/want it really loud so I dont see any reason why it shouldnt sound OK.

what it does is splice into one of the channels on the back.. Usually done by the rear speakers... You can do it at the rear speakers or the back of the deck...

It's called a high/low converter... It taps into the speaker wire and gives you outputs for RCA's to run to the amp while all the meantime still letting you keep your rear speakers working... They're cake to run

I may have to sell some drugs so that I can afford to buy one from Radioshack.

Funny thing is, I noticed distortion from the stock unit at roughly over 1/2 volume and at that point there was only 7v going to the factory speakers. Since my amp could handle 7v in I just soldered an RCA end on my rear channels and didnt have rear speakers. It worked for a bit but the unit has bass attentuation to protect stock speakers from bass heavy music so I never got my low-lows at nearly the same volume.

Or you can use a LOC (Line over converter). Radio shack has some. I used a sosche one from walmart for a bit.

There are also amps with high level in. It should be advertised in the features of the amp. You just have to splice the outputs on the amp and solder a plug on the ends of the wires that plugs into the amp.

Or, if you dont want the bass attentuation, JL has a unit that fixes that through equalization and attentuation to give a flat signal to the amp. They are expensive but sapposably work pretty well.

Or, if you really want to spend money and be techy, keep your stock unit and install a carputer. Use a LOC and a line in to the carputer for listening to radio and listen to MP3's on the computer like you would CD's. You dont even need a CD player. Add wireless to your carputer and sync your carputer with your home library via WiFi. Get a folddown screen that is hard to see when it is folded up or place your screen in a hard to see area (below the dash...etc). Best of all, you can pull up to any place with wireless acess and browse the net with your car. You can also get one of thoes sprint cards that uses a cellphone signal and can give DSL speed with 3G service, slightly slower with x1 service. I am still contemplating making a carputer. There is plenty of room in the rear doors of a 4dr extended cab with a little modification so even if they wanted to steal it...they would have hard time (and have to know where it was). They could still steal the screen. But quick removal of a properly installed screen usually ends up braking the screen. Add an alarm and I dont think a theif will stick around for long trying to dig around in your truck.

That is an unrealistic suggestion (carputer) but it is possible. XD
