Time for Upgrade
I wanted to know what I could throw together on a budget. Right now I have stock speakers/hu. I like the sound that it puts out now but I would like something with a little more depth. I noticed my girlfriends alero has better sound then my truck. So all im looking for is a little better sound quality.
First off, I want to keep my original head unit.
Second, would just upgrading the speakers be enough. (I dont need to blow the doors off with bass)
Third, If speakers wont do it I was going to have 2 options, either just getting a sub or... getting a sub and speakers.
I'm an idiot when it comes to car audio so I need some help. I only listen to rock music. Also what would be some set ups that I could go with?

I have done a little shopping on the net. I only want to spend about $200. From reading some reviews I found that some people just put some speakers and an amp for a set up. I would like to have a sub but I dont want to give up the 2 back seats. So as far as brands for speakers and amps, I have no clue. I saw a pair of Infinity 5x7's for 109.00. If i got 2 sets of those and an amp I'd but up to at least 300 though. Throw out some ideas guys

Just because you have a sub doesn't mean you would have to give up the back seats. I have a 15" Kicker and I can still use both of my back seats. It's in a small box and my amp is mounted under the seat so if I ever need to put two people back there all I have to do is unhook the two wires running into the sub(takes 1 minute to do, tops) and pull out my box and I'm good to go. If I were you, I would just get a $100 single din headunit, new door speakers, and a 12" sub that requires a fairly small box. You'll have good sound and can still easily use your two back seats if you ever needed to.

01RangerEdge...did you get the Alpine SPS-507 speakers? Because I found them on ebay for 30 dollars for 2 speakers brand new. Im thinking 60 buck for 4 is a good deal. Just wanted to know if its that big of an increase in quality compared to the stock speakers.
Would I need an amp to get top quality out of these? If so, what size?
Is it easy to install by yourself, Ive done it before in my old car but I just had to pop the cover off to install.

I believe those are it, mine are probably a model before that cause I bought them 4 years ago.
It was pretty big difference, one of my friends is an audio whiz and he said my high's and mid's sounded really good for the stock head unit.
Wiring is not simple for a stock head unit. I'd recommend a 400W amp, they're not expensive and it will make the speakers sound a ton better.
