Best OEM Head Unit?

I'm thinking about ditching the Pioneer HU I have right now and going back to a more stock look (the Pioneer is on it's last legs anyway and I hate that useless space above my radio). Is there a good HU that would hook up with no problems...Explorer, Mustang, newer Ranger? I don't need the six disc changer or anything like that, just a high quality radio/CD player with a preamp out for a sub.

WELLLL....there are really none that are good. OEM headunits pretty much suck. But if i had to choose I would try to find a new Shaker head unit from many cars that ford makes. You can definitely find them in the new Mustangs.

I dunno I really liked my stocker in my 02. The one with CD player and the good old Tape deck together. Sounded great and balanced.

That's all I'm really looking for...minus the tape deck. I'm not looking to blow my windows out, just quality sound in a stock HU. Do the stockers have the preamp output for a sub?

The stock one in my 02 didnt have any preamps. Just a regular shmo radio. I liked the bass response from it, but I dont listen to rap. Just Alternative rock type stuff.

You can get one of those boxes that hooks up to the speakers and changes it to RCA plugs.

I am surprised that none of you have said Tremor stereo, that is a great looking (IMO) and great sounding stereo for being stock.

I traded for the 290-watt Pioneer HU and sub/amp console and together it is a great system. The radio in particular comes through loud, strong, and clear which when you run out of CDs is of vital importance to avoid silent driving doldrums.

Well I had a little sound system in my truck. Well I traded it in and so i oulled my sub and head unit and put my stock back in. With my stock one with my alpine speakers, it sounded really good...i never knew how much speakers could do until i heard the stockers in my bro's windstar and the stockers in my honda...

not all of them where a 6disc

mine was a single cd player with tape deck

but it was awesome. It doesn't put much bass to the speakers, but has separate wiring for a factory amp and sub

even with them just a single disc, it is still by far the best OEM radio out for a Ranger...

Before I got an Alpine, I had a CD/tape radio out of an '01 Explorer. I liked the RDS and speed sensitive volume features although I had no use for the tape deck. The 6-disc units are nice, but don't ship well because the CD trays come loose inside the radio if they get turned upside down during the trip to your house. The main reason I got an aftermarket deck was to interface with my Sirius and I-pod without having to use the FM modulators plus it just sounds alot better.

Good link! It looks like a lot of those would work. Any ideas which ones are better than the others? That Tremor looks nice too! Didn't see that one on the link though. Maybe I'll try ebay as well.

Tremor was the one i couldnt remember last time haha. The new Shaker headunits might not look as good as the Tremor but the whole system sounds alot better.
