Putting 8 inch subs in the door of a ranger.

Its harder to find a tweeter that will play as low as where an 8" driver leaves off. Usually if your going to run such a large woofer then you will need a mid-range to handle the frequency between the woofer and tweeter.
So not only do you need room for a 8" woofer (mid-bass) but also the mid-range too.
you also have to have "crossovers" to separate the frequencies to the speakers. You will need highpass, lowpass and bandpass filters for a three-way setup.
There is a lot of space for a large speaker in the factory area but it will need modified and baffled. Don't expect actual "sub" bass to come from your doors that is just asking too much from a flimsy metal door.
I am planning on running two 7" rs180 woofer in a two-way setup with a nd28f silk dome tweeter. These work in a two way together because the tweeter can play down to 2000hz which is right where the woofer starts to break up.

This is interesting to me, because I have an extended cab, and don't want to give up any of the rear space for my subs. I have been thinking of getting a pair of subs designed for small boxes and installing them in place of the rear speakers (in the rear doors). Has anyone done this successfully and still hidden them behind the factory grill? I'm looking at 8" subs. I'm just looking for good SQ out of my system. I have 5 1/4" separates up front, and dumping the factory rears in favor of sub would give me decent sound sand a good stage.

i think if you built a small box and used some sound deadening it would work out well

I am interested in putting subs in the rear doors so I dont have to give up any space. It would be a big project to do right. I figure I have an extra $2000 in my truck just to have an extended cab with doors. Dont want to loose that just for a stereo.
I think you would need to cut out a lot of the door and fabricate something for the door stops since the OEM ones go right throught the middle of the space that you need. Build a proper box to fit and then fabricate a new door panel. Bigger project that I want right now.

great idea
ive seen this done on a lot of cars and if you got a pod you could put them in any door with pretty much any size if the pods are created so they stand out of the door a little way, i found out about that after i got 2 12" mtxs in a ported box put in my 4 door ranger and i have absolutely no space in it now

The pictures are pretty much posted in backwards order.
I remember seeing this thread long ago. He wanted every inch he could get and that was the least messy way to do it. Gess he didn't have painters tape ?
He used the duct tape to help form the mold.
Then the cardboard went in and then the mess began...
It's all fiberglass in there now...
