I was wondering how all you guys who go offroading clean the underbodies of your trucks. I can not stand knowing theres globs of mud under my truck just sitting there. I usually just go under there with a power washer but even after 45min of powerwashing there is still mud that can be seen. I love offroading, but I sure hate washing up afterwards... So any of you guys got any advice?

I just use the high pressure setting on the garden hose and get on my knees/back to clean. I get soaked and muddy, but it works. The frame will still be tan because fine dirt sticks to the wax covering the frame, but all of the chunks of mud and other debris will be gone.

BTW - don't forget to drop the spare and clean it and the frame it covers too.

 

best advice...dont go wheelin. no matter what u do u'll never get it all out.

 

ive heard some people on hear saying they use a sprinkler, or one of those rainbow sprinklers...

 

first step is to build urself a ramp...position it towards your neighbors backyard....punch the gas. stick your landing. and with some luck ya might land square in their pool....is a pain to dry though.

 

actually thats not a bad idea...use those ramps to change ur erl and such to gain better access.

make some skid plates, spray some armor all or cooking spray where u can reach. that should help a little...

 

1. put a sprinkler under the truck
b. use the power wash and keep at it from the sides
III. go to a drive through car wash and pay for under body wash


most of all - keep wheeling
people with a 4x4 that don't take them out to get muddy are real wussies....

perhaps they dont wanna wheel anymore becuase they are tired of cleaning it every time? or they dont feel the need to?

If you are afraid of yoru truck getting dirty...get a car. I know some people liek the dropped look etc. BUT a truck is a truck. Thats whats wrong with the market these days. People think a truck should be a luxury vehicle, so we give up qualities of a truck to please the masses. What qualities? how about those solid axles every offroad enthusiast loves?

 

Piece of heavy 3" iron pipe. Drill holes in it across one side lengthwise as if you were making it into a sprinkler. Put a fitting on the end for a fire hose. Put a cap on the other end. Connect one end of a fire hose to this pipe. Connect the other end of the fire hose to a fire truck. Engage PTO and bring pressure up to about 100psi. Drive over pipe that is now spraying high pressure water out and watch as every last bit of dirt comes off the underbody.

Im not saying im afraid to get my truck dirty, I just like it to be clean when im NOT wheeling. I am definatly not going to stop wheeling just because of a little mud I cant get to. All I wanted was some advice on how people get there trucks clean after having some fun off road.

grab a can of pam(or other cooking spray)
hit everything u can before you wheel.. it comes off MUCH easier

 

That wont hurt anything will it? Is there anything I should avoid spraying it on?

i already said the cooking spray truck...works pretty good. but ya wheeling and WHEELING are differnt things.

 

I have been taking it to a drive thru car wash and buying the car wash that includes the "chassis bath". Get this, this is funny, one or two time they told me I could not take my truck thru the car wash, they said it was too muddy. Thats when I know I had a good time. LOL

Aside from using it on snow I don't see a point in 4x4 unless you use it. And I also agree with solodos. A truck shouldn't be all cushy and weak. It should be used hard and enjoyed.....bleh...

 

just go to the drivethru car wash and pay for the underbody wash or you could go to the quarter wash and get under there with that. i do that mostly, or with my hose.

im usually wet and dirty from recovering my friend anyway.

 

Yeah I have had the carwash people not let me go through either. That and theres a place that says you can go through as many times as it takes to get your car clean... I went 5 times. They wernt to happy with me...

 

see if u can make a skid plate from an old piece of rubber mat, use some of those cheap floor mats as well...

 

I have 4 wheel drive but dont' go mudding - have snow tires. I need the 4x4 for the 7 month winter :-P. Anyways, I don't know about mud but salt and snow grime come off pretty good when going through the drive thru wash and just using the power washer. Just lay on the side of it and spray the bajeesus out of it. You'll get wet but it comes off.

 

I clean the bejeezus outta mine every time I go offroading, which ends up being a couple times a month. I start on the rear cuz it creaks like mad after all the mud and sand gets caked in the leafsprings. Put it on jackstands, take the wheels off and just spray away till everything is gone on/in the leafs, under the bed, the fenders, and the rear bumper. Then I use some white lithium grease on every spot the leafs come in contact with to reduce squeaking. For the front, if it's not too bad then I put it on ramps and clean the undercarriage real well. If it's bad, I take off the wheels and calipers and clean out the brake pads, I did it yesterday and they were covered in mud and all kinds of nasty black stuff. It takes awhile each time, but it gives me the piece of mind that it'll wheel another day! I've seen people literally wash their trucks all weekend just to get rid of all the mud, so don't get all involved unless you've got some time!!

 

i agree to tell the truth im tired of al these trucks with euro lights and all these fancy mods that dont do anything

 

If you dont wanna use pam just use tire spary like Tire Wet or Black Magic, it puts a nice shine on a black frame and covers all the underbody parts nicely making them look good. Then simply power wash it off. I mean I do this with my show cougars wheel wells and my rangers both so I dont have to use a brush and scrub behind the 18's on the cougar and the offroad tires on my ranger...
