Who else hates rail dust?

Finally after owning my Mazda for 7 months already I started the clay bar/wax routine. Check out this rail dust! Completely covers the rear bumper cover, hatch and pretty much the rear half of the car!

Took me three hours to do just the rear bumper cover... all I can say is I love the Meguiars clay bar kit! She's smooth as glass now!

How long before you are supposed to replace the claybar?

I just do it when it either starts to fall apart or you can feel the dirt in it. I use about 1/4 to 1/3 of the bar at a time and if it's really bad like this one was it took 1/3 of the bar to do just the rear bumper cover!

If you used something like IronX it would just hose right off. I do agree it is a pain though.

alot of people refer to it as "rail dust" claiming its from being shipped on a train car but the most likely cause is brake particals embedding into the paint and then rusting. The stock brakes on my F-150 were terrible for this, my white paint is covered with this after every winter.

Here's a description of what it will do:

Interesting, those rust spots in the paint remind me of the brine stains my dad white Sierra gets.

Rial dust isn't a problem. Its a freshly oiled dirt road.
I live off of two dirt roads. either way my truck is getting dirty, but i hate when they oil it, because then it sticks into the paint. usually have to get some Wax and Grease remover.

I work at a steel plant. So I have this stuff ALL OVER my stinkin truck. Steel dust has settled on my truck, and it started rusting. Its not that noticeable, but if you run your hand across my paint, you can feel it.

I have tried a claybar, but it didnt really get it all out.

^ Maybe you should try that IronX stuff KLC is talking about... I think I'll keep an eye out for some. Just taking a break now after finishing with the clay bar before I wax. Only took me 8 hours to clay bar it. lol

Same here... can't wait to finish and see it all cleaned up for the first time in the sunlight! Brought it home in the middle of a snow storm so I've yet to see the car completely clean!

I feel your pain. On Friday I had to clay bar a brand new white crew cab F150, that we just got off the transport truck, because of this.

Hi, you need to clay bar and an iron remover. make sure to polish because clay will mar your paint.
